Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Objects on tab disappeared

I've just been whacked! I was working on a tabbed form when I decided to click the hide tab checkmark in the tabs' properties. This turned out to be a big mistake. All my fields and buttons have disappeared.
In the panic that ensued I compacted the database. The objects never did return to the form. I tried to Arrange tabstops in hopes that the process of arranging will reveal the objects to no avail. I tried to replace the fields by dragging new ones over but when I look at the object names I notice that there is a "0" value added to the names. This leads me to believe that the objects are still listed in the dictionary. Please help!

    RE: Objects on tab disappeared

It makes sense that buttons and fields on a tabbed object would be hidden if you hid the tabbed object.

Here's something you could try. Open the form in design mode. Go to events and the interactive. Then open the x-basic explorer and see if the tabbed object appears in the list of form objects. One of the methods for a tabbed object is .show().

Drag the show() method from the xbasic explorer to the interactive window and the execute the method with a carriage return. Hopefully this will unhide the tabbed object.

Not all of the objects disappeared after I did what I did. A couple of items remained. The tab itself is still visible. I tried to do what you outlined by opening the form in design mode. As for going to events, I wasn't able to find this option; so I take it that you want me to rightclick on the form then Actions, then the interactive tab, from there to the xbasic explorer to drag the .show() method to the interactive window.

I tried it but it did't make the lost objects reappear.

        Greg,

Sorry, I've exhausted my suggestions. It may be time to reach for a backup; but, if you're like me I get going sometimes and forget to backup.

        Otherwise, time for a redesign.

Don't you just hate it when this happens. You do a bit of harmless experimenting and poof! everything goes into the toilet.

Yeah, I know I should have backed it up!
