Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Color enable radio button on reports

I have searched for an answer on this board to my question but do not see it.

I have radio buttons on a form. While working on the form, my end user can make a choice and it will change color according to what is chosen. Now trying to have that same color option show up on the report will not work. It stays black and white. My end result was to have that color show up on the report so the information would stand out to the client.

These forms and reports were designed by someone else and there are at least 100 radio buttons on them -- I am just trying to add the color options to this.

Any ideas or what am I missing?

RE: Color enable radio button on reports

I don't believe you can change the color of a radio button on a report because only the button itself is displayed.

One rather complex method would be to create 'labels' that are actually calculated fields where the 'calculation' is simply a variable name and the variable stores the text for the label.

An easier method would be to ditch the radio buttons and use a different field type that could be colored. This would be most appropriate when the buttons is used to select some text - in which case you would simply display the text.

If it is a true/false type radio button, modify this idea and keep the radio buttons but have a 'copy' of the field behind it as a type-in field but define the color as "white on white" or "yellow on yellow", etc. so the text won't be visible.

RE: Color enable radio button on reports

I am getting frustrated because the color enable is an option in the report mode, just like on the form, but it doesn't work on the report.

I really want to get this to work. There are 4 choices -
      AC for 'Accepted'
      NP for 'Not Present'
      NI for 'Not Inspected'
      DE for 'Defective'

If they choose AC - the "AC" should turn green
If they choose DE - the "DE" should turn red

The other 2 choices can stay black.

On this report there are over 100 lines (items) for these choices to be made. The explanation that follows the choice will always be different.

I played with making new fields - (this will be a huge job, but if it is what the clients want, okay)

I added a 1 character field (called 'color') to the table and then put a calculated field on the form next to it -- I got as far as getting the calculated field to turn green, but it gives me a green "T" (for true) when I want a green "AC" to fill in or a black "F" - instead of a black "AC"

      Any help would be appreciated!!

      Thanks
      Terri

RE: Color enable radio button on reports

        Terri,

Have you resolved this? Sorry about the delay but I've been busy.

When I referred to putting a calculated field on the report, I was talking about a calculation defined only in the report - one for each radio button you want to show.

This calc field wouldn't have to show any text but it would be placed directly behind the radio button you want to display. I would probably make the calc field size a square that was just slightly larger than the radio button itself. Then, when the calculation is True (radio button is 'on') then the color might be "yellow on yellow" and when it is False the color might be "white on white".

If you are still having trouble, let me know - you might even send me a direct e-mail as I will be fairly busy the next couple weeks.
