RE: the REAL V5 prices
Boy, can I relate to what you said. However, I have been in business for 35 years and operate a very modest small business enterprise. I have used Alpha software since the start just to keep my business up to date. I don't develop, I don't have a customer base paying me for programs or upgrades. I just try to keep up to date with the latest version of the software. When V4.5 came up, I didn't mind spending the $300 to upgrade from V4.0. I didn't notice a difference in the operation but had confidence that the developers had made some significant changes that would benefit me. I also intended to upgrade to V5.0 when that came out and I didn't mind paying a modest price to keep up to date with the latest version. The $1099 price caught me by surprise, however, and I can't see how my small company can afford the extra $800 to upgrade from V4.5 to V5.0. I don't intend to change my program much and only wanted to stay with the latest program. I really feel like I have already paid for my program each time I upgraded and for $800 just to keep using the same basic program I have set up since the early DOS days with Alpha, I just simply can't afford it.
I guess my company will now start falling behind and I won't be able to upgrade my operating program unless I can somehow justify the extra expense.
I have gone the route of Access and DBase and others. Alpha, by far, is the best thing for me. BUT, simply to upgrade my program and not being a developer, just because I use 4 work stations in my business, I have to bare the brunt of the developer's costs! I certainly would be happy to pay the price of a single upgrade but the cost to me just because I chose to network my application with a 5 pack license is simply out of reach.
