Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Out on a limb

    Hey:

I have been working with the Beta version of A5V5 and have been going great guns. Today I go to do some work and I get a message saying my beta version has expired! What the heck!?!

I have looked at the ftp site, and there are no more builds available to download. What the heck am I going to do?

You can work around it until A5V5 is released by setting your PC's system clock back to 7/16/02 of earlier.

        Hey Greg,

Welcome to the club. The betas have ended so now it's purchase time. I've tried to reset the system date, reinstall the beta, etc but to no avail. we'll have to wait until we get our copies of v5.

I set my system date to 5/12/02, no luck, even rebooted, uninstalled and then reinstalled. Anyone have any luck?

            Ken,

You need to set th clock tosome day AFTER the beta release date of 07/02/02. This will solve your problem.

Gee, the folks at Alpha thought people got impatient and upset when version 5 was over a year late, how mad are people who have used v.5 to do things gonna be now!?

In business and love, timing is everything.

                Thanks for the answers.

It's a beta. I'm glad I got to use it at all. Now it's time to ante up.

Don't get me wrong, I love it - but it's like your wife hiding the keyboard, you want so bad to do something, but you have no way to do it.

Do we have a date as to when we can buy it?

When I was in the military in Vietnam, we had a saying that went 'Sometimes I feel like the monkey, sometimes I feel like the football'. To a male monkey EVERYTHING else in the world looks like a female monkey!

I had to reset my computer's clock to a date prior to the 17th - I choose the 16th and it works fine. I called Alpha and I was told that Friday - the 19th - is the ship date. Let us pray.
