Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    OnRowDblclick browse

    Is it possible to use a OnRowDblclick on a browse to go to the form view of that clicked record, or does the browse have to be an embedded browse on a form?

    Thanks

    RE: OnRowDblclick browse

    Stand alone browses have no events. Only browses that are objects on forms have events.

    An easy way to do what you want is to use a tabbed subform. On tab 1 place the fields you want to see; on tab 2 place a browse of the table itself. Select the record in the browse view on tab 2 and the same record will be displayed on tab 1 in form view.

      RE: OnRowDblclick browse

      Thanks Ohlen, but after a few days in talking with the end user, they prefer a full screen browse and dbl click on the row of interest....

      Perhaps you or someone could point out the error in my attemp with the following script? My set is many to one (bond to source) and I have the following in the onrowdblclick of a form with a browse object. I am just trying to display the clicked on record in a different form designed off of the same set.
      --------------------------------
      ''XBasic

      tbl=table.current()
      'call the form

      if is_object("Trans entry") then
      Trans entry.show()
      tbl.fetch_first()

      else
      :Form.view("Trans entry")
      tbl.fetch_first()

      end if

        George, once you open the new form, think of it as running in its own session - "table.current()" has no meaning to the new form.

        The first thing you need to do is get a "linking value" from the new form. This isn't truely a link but will be used to find the correct record in the form. Then you open the form, set the appropriate index, and find the correct record.

        Below is a simplified script that is used in one of my apps. Some intermediate checks and messages have been left out. (In this particular case, I opened the form in dialog mode but that isn't required.)

        Code:
        curr_ord = c_ord_item->ord_numb

        fp = form.load( "Curr_items", "dialog" )
        fp.index_set( "ord_numb" )
        fp.find( curr_ord )
        IF c_ord_head->ord_numb  curr_ord
            fp.close()
            END
        END IF
        fp.activate()
        fp.show()

        fp.close()

          Oops! I meant to delete that IF...END IF section but only removed the message that was inside it. For those who might be wondering, I put that there in case of index issues. If the correct record is not found for some reason, I don't want to allow any chance for the user to change the wrong record.

            Actually Ohlen, the stand-alone browses have the same events as other browses though it's not that easy to access them in V4.5.

            If you open the browse in design mode, click view/code editor and, when the code window appears showing "Global Scripts" click the drop down and you will find the saved browse name, click that and you can get to the browse events.

            Even with the available events, placing the browse in a form is clearly the best way to use it. However, if you use named browses extensively, editing the events from the control panel is easier.
