Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Parsing error message on Print

I have a report that seems to run fine for everyone but a customer in New Zealand who is running Win 98 ver. 2. The application is in A5 Ver. 4.0. When he hits print, he gets a quick look at an initialization screen, then nothing. He hits the print button, selects preview, gets a quick look at an initialization screen then gets an error message: Parsing Order expiration in group detail. Menues not found. invert menues, OK. He pushes OK and nothing happens.
I have hundreds of these CDs out and it is the first time we have seen the error message. I have sent him new CDs on the theory it might be a bad disk. No help there. He can print other reports from the application, just not the most important one. Is electricity different in New Zealand? Any suggestions on where to look. Also, I had him install the generic text printer. When he hit print, nothing happens again.

Could there be a problem with the Data? Ask you client to send the data to you or create a new report with different criterior for your client to print the report.

      Linda,

I agree with Keith, that it may very likely be something in the customer's data. It almost sounds like he's trying to group records which don't exist.

Questions that might rule out hardware or printer setup issues:

      1) Do other reports print from Alpha Five? i.e. is it only one report which is causing him a problem, or all of them?

      2) Do you specify a particular printer in the report layout?

      3) Has the customer setup a printer in Alpha Five? (File; Printer Setup) If so, does it point to the Windows Default printer, or some other?

Would not be better to check if the computer is the one giving the problem?
I suggets ask the New Zealand guy to install the application on another computer in the same location and see if the error's still coming up. If it doesn't then tell him that your application is running good and that the problem is with the computer.
I think it's better to eliminate the easy things first and then concentrate on the hard ones.
Tell him to change printer too, just to test.
