Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Watermarks?

I'm trying to figure out how to watermark reports. I've searched both this forum & the code archive as well as the online help and the printed/pdf docs with no luck. Other than using preprinted watermarked paper (which is a bit of a kludge) has anyone got a solution?

Thanks for any ideas about this...

    RE: Watermarks?

    Hi Bill,

some printers (such as my Epson Stylus Color 850)include a watermark function in the printer setup.

If your printer doesn't have this, try the program "Fineprint 2000" (www.fineprint.com), which allows you to define your own forms (including watermarks).

    YOurs,

    John

      RE: Watermarks?

      John,

Does your 850 print the watermark simultaneously with a print job from any application.AND.does it let you set up different phrases for the watermarks.AND.is the choosing of the watermark fairly easy for the user.AND.will it work it the printer has been attached to a print server for network use (sorry, I like to use the little xb that I know whenever I get a chance)?

This needs to be fairly simple w/o much user intervention. Basically, I've been asked to provide a "Confidential" watermark on several sales and HR reports, a company name watermark on a couple of reports that are given to customers and dept. name watermarks on reports that are generated by diff. depts. All except the dept. ones are fixed. The dept. ones are conditional, depending on the dept. the user belongs to who generates the report. If I can do this from within A5 then no user intervention is necessary.

Thanks for the info on the printer.

I think you could put a text box on a report, make the font something like 200 size and make the color either a 5% or so fill or use a color that is very light. Isn't really a watermark but would do the same thing. I haven't tried this but I don't see any problem with it.

You might be able to add a bitmap. If its too large that might
          also be a problem.

            Russ,

I tried the text box with light grey but that just forces a wide spacing between each of the line in my reports (in the report layout editor the details section is only one line high - 1.46 - and I get nice tight rows of data in the actual report, but by adding a large pt text box in there now the break is at 10.00 or whatever is necessary to show the "watermark." It also repeats the watermark text at each break in the data in the details).

I don't know much about all of the different regions of a report layout but I also tried it in others besides the details region and none give me a single background image of the watermark text with the report details overtop of it.

If you know a way to make this happen I'd sure appreciate it, esp. as making a custom light grey really looks like a nice legitimate watermark -- if I can get the details to print in the nice tight rows over top.

            Thanks,

            Bill

              RE: Watermarks?

USING YELLOW MAKES A VERY NICE LIGHT GRAY.

I just placed a Rich Text object onto an existing report. Make it transparent, and make the font light yellow. see if that works. If you need conditional objects, make the object a calculated field and see what happens.

              Good Luck,

              Tom

I placed it in the report header. You would need to put it into some static part of the report or it would be repeated for the group or detail. On a laserjet 2200, yellow comes out as a very nice light gray.
