Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Stephen,
It was a great success (as was the previous one). Selwyn said v5 will be released in June. Everyone at the conference got a beta copy. Ver. 5 is Mindblowing!

I am hoping the the Kansas City conference is still on, but I was wondering, what did you do at the conference? What was the cost? How long did it last? I am just trying to get any info so that when the KC conference comes, I can have some info for my boss so that hopefully I can attend. Thanks for any info you have!

I got a beta copy last year, but it has expired and anyway I am too busy with my landscaping to program like that. Yes - I was VERY impressed.

Is there much change since the notes that Selwyn put out after the last conference?

I hope they are also doing a good job on documentation. They do know how, it is just a matter of costs to distribute.

            Stephen,
I'm not sure how much change there is since your last beta, but the new Action Scripting is incredably powerful - like a body builder on steroids, as is xdialog. The volume of new features overall is really overwhelming.

              RE: A5 Conference

A special thanks to Ira for making this such a great conference. It was such a pleasure to meet a lot of the names from this.board(), what a great bunch of people. I will be putting a few of their photos here as soon as I get them downloaded from the camera.

The new Alpha V5 is mind blowing. I only hope that it does not frighten new commers. There is so much to learn but it has been made so easy to use. I cant wait for the real thing for the projects that I have in mind.

A big toast to all at Alpha.

The conference was a great success with intense sessions showing all of the new features of the coming version five. There are so many great possibilities with this program.

It was a great experience sharing ideas with so many great minds on this product. The cist is irrelevant compared to the valuable experience and insight gained.

Hopefully, the conferences will become a continued tradition to further the skills of all Alpha Five users.

showing all of the new features

Lets just say, many of the new features were shown. By no means were all the new features shown...

To anyone who went to the conference,

Is there any sign of improvement in the word processor in v5? - specifically something akin to the "table" feature in MS Word?

                      Hoping... hoping... hoping...

Well, I'm not sure what you are looking for. As you know, A5 is a database not a word processor. However, ver. 5 will have easy to use mail merge with MS-Word.

The RTF memo field has been greatly improved to include justification; right, left, etc. Haven't tried any further.
