Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Extra blank page in report

I have a number of reports based on an invoicing set. The incvoicing set is a standard INVOICE parent linked to an INVOICE_DETAIL child type structure. The problem is that in one case where I had 34 INVOICE_DETAIL items, I found that the invoice report printed as expected with a header page listing the first 20 items and a subsequent second page holding the remaining 14 items as well as a footer containing totals. My problem is that I have a packing slip report that is based on the same set that prints three pages and the last page is blank. when I look at the records there are only 34 items associated with the invoice number. Any ideas?

Not counting your post I got 120 hits when searching on "blank page".

Have you exhausted the suggestions to be found in these posts?
    There can be only one.

Fixed it! For some reason I got the notion to narrow the height of the detail section to the same height as the fields in the detail section. Why this works is a mystery to me but it works.

RE: Extra blank page in report

Greg, in other cases I've seen extra blank sheets when objects in my report layout extend beyond a margin. It's almost like Alpha Five prints part on one page, and then finishes it on the next. If the object contains blank space what you get on the second sheet is of course, blank and seems mysterious.

Perhaps the white space above and below the fields in your detail band was causing the total length of your page layout (including the group or report footer section) to extend into the bottom margin?

RE: Extra blank page in report

          Greg,

Along with what Tom is saying, check out the Report Properties menu and then Report Details. Select the Page tab and see what the Page Layout size is. It's probably set to custom.

This occurs when you create the report using the Report Genie and create a report with groups. For some reason Alpha wants to slide all the group fields to the far right, thus creating too much blank space on the left side of the report, which if you've ever created a report with goups, you've discovered. (Ugh, sure hope v5 doesn't do this)

Click the radio button in the Overflow section that says, Data does not fit on page and then select the Do not trim option, this will solve the extra pages.

Of course, on reports that must go beyond the normal print margins for a 8.5 X 11 page, this won't solve that problem. Then, Landscape should be used.
