check value of dim variables

I'm finally beginning to toy around with xbasic. How would I look to see what the value of my dim's are to see if my xbasic is working as expected?

one way is to show them on what ever form you are using ( assuming it is done from a form )

I'm fooling around with xbasic too -- when I dim a variable a trace.writeln([variable name]) will make them show in the trace window when the script is run and the variable holds a value.

I think you have to have the variable listed for the form in form variables to display them there. You notice I said, 'I think'. Certainly no expert here but that's a couple of ideas. Nice when you could do Alt-F3 'V' and see them all in A4 - wasn't it.

If you

dim var1 as c
dim var2 as n

then you can insert message boxes such as
ui_msg_box("CURRENT VALUE VARIABLES", "Is "+var1+" "+ltrim(str(var2)))
or some variation thereof at strategic points in your script. It's quick and easy to do.

For more complex scripts my preference is to put a
debug(1)
line in the script (make sure it's not currently password protected and, when the script is run the debugger kicks in and you can type in the variable names at the bottom of the debugger window. Beyond just looking at the variables, you can also look at table/field values from the current script session, or most any Alpha expression you can type into the debugger. It's more flexible than just the message boxes.
