Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Production of application

I have an A5V4 application that I would like to put on a CD and market. What are the steps involved in doing this? I have a CD-R/RW drive but have not used it much.

    Do you have A5v4 Runtime?

No, I do not have A5V4 Runtime. I used the Developer's Kit for Versioin 1, but thought I should wait until A5V5 comes out before investing in the Runtime kit.

Whatever you spend on V4.5 now **WILL** be credited toward your purchase of v5. If you buy 4.5, it will be credited toward v5. If you also buy the 4.5 runtime, it will be credited topward the v5 runtime. If your working w/part of v1, it seems to me that not everything is compatable with v1 and v4.5. Your mixing apples and oranges to a certain extent.

You need to get your apples in the same basket.

Thanks for the runtime information. I was not aware that the cost for 4.5 runtime would be applied to 5.0 runtime.

            Wallace,

I hope Ken is right. I have not seen any reference for the full credit for the Runtime version. If this the case it is great.

I tought that only the full version was eligible for credit, I hope I am wrong.

Anyway, we all look forward to push the setup button of the version 5.

Ken is right. It was announced somewhere that the price of 4.5 would be credited towards 5.0.

Yes Ken is right I e-mailed Carol and she said Yes, a purchase of A5V4.5 Runtime will be applied to Ver 5 Runtime.

Now I have A5V4 Runtime. How do I use it to package my application?
Thanks in advance for your help.

                      RE: Production of application

In simple terms, load the runtime onto the client's computer and copy the folder containing your application to their computer. Give them a shortcut to run the app.

It is far better using the Wise installer program that is available with the unlimited runtime. You can then load via floppies or CD but then you will also need a CD writer.

The documentation with the runtime is very comprehensive and useful.

I don't believe that Alpha Softare offers the Wise Installer with the runtime any more. However, this installation software as well as many others are available through both shareware and commercial channels.

I know about the commercial products for installing. What is available in shareware? Thanks in advance for any information.

I just downloaded one from WWW.gentee.com called setup pro.
                            seems to work ok.

Anyone know if you can build a networkable app with runtime unlimited? Bottom line is, what does the user need to buy to set someting up that is networkable. Would they need to buy a networking license from Alpha assuming that the app can not be modified by them?
