Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    loss of label formats

When I went to run some labels I noticed that all the standard Avery, etc., label formats were missing. Do I need to reload the software to retrieve them?

    File:

The label definitions are contained in the a_shared series of files, ususally found in the program folder for Alpha Five, or the Alpha Five runtime engine.

I suspect either the a_shared.dbf and a_shared.cdx files are missing, or the path in the view/settings command is not set to the folder that contains them.

      RE: loss of label formats

These are stored in the "A_shared" series of files you should find in your program directory in a normal installation. A_shared.dbf, A_shared.fpt, and A_shared.cdx

Are they missing from your setup. ?

          Hi,

After I created the Custom Label, I lost to A5 default label template and I could not find the a_shared.cdx file from my A5 file folder even after Re-install the A5.

How can I get this file(a_shared.cdx) back?

            Re: loss of label formats

Just, temporarily, add the a_shared.dbf to your database and then recreate the index.

Did you mean create a new table?

I could not find the a_shared.cdx file from my A5 file folder
To me that statement means you could find the a_shared.dbf but not the a_shared.cdx. If my logic is not incorrect, all you need to do is recreate the a_shared.cdx by recreating the index file. It will be recreated if you build the missing index. My screenshot shows what the index tag name and other parameters are.

If you just want to replace all the a_shared files, see my attachment.

If it isn't apparent to anyone else reading this thread, Alpha stores the label names and definitions in a table in the program directory. That table is named a_shared.dbf. Should the table "misbehave" and the label definitions appear to be missing it is possible that the index for that table is corrupted or missing. You can fix that.

                      John,

Did you try the suggested reindexing or replacing your a_shared files with the ones I supplied. It is not apparent to me from your latest two posts that you have done either.

Yes, I did. I created a new table and build the Index as you suggested in my db.

No, Not yet. Did you mean Copy it and paste into Alpha5v9 directory? After unzipped it and tried to run it, It did not work.

                          John,

I never suggested creating a new table. I suggested adding it, temporarily, to your database for the purpose of reindexing. Adding a table is performed from the tables/sets tab of the control panel. Use the right click menu choice Add Table/Set.

Unzip my attachment and save the files in the A5 program directory. You don't "run" it/them. After putting them in the program directory you should have access to the label definitions in the Label creation genie.

I used the add table/set and second method.

I still have a same problem. Is there something else caused the problem?

This is what did (1) deleted the Custom label setting. (2) added the a_shared file with add/table tool. (3)unzip and save A5v9 directory. -- It did not work so that

                              (4) After Deleted and reinstalled the A5v9, check with AlphaSports, It did not work still.
                              (5) Add the A_Shared file with Add/Table tool - not work

                              I attached some screenshots.
