Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Memo field on tabbed form.

I have two forms - customer search and customer info(Tabbed) form. The search form is based on the customer db, the customer info form is based on a customer set. On the customer search form I have several buttons, one being update, which opens the customer info form. When the info form opens all the labels are gone, if I click on any field they appear. If I open the info form directly everything is fine. What I discovered, by redoing the info form and saving each field entered, was when I placed the Notes field (Which is a memo field), on the form, saved it and opened it through the customer search form, the labels disappeared. I changed the notes form to a character form and everything is fine. The info form work fine as a stand alone form, but not if it called for through another form. Question: Are tabbed forms not allowed to have memo forms on them. Am I not going about it the right way, or do we have a odd occurance. Thanks for any suggestions.

One of the more common things that happen with tabs is the the fields are palced too close to the edge of the tab border.

Check that you have left a small space between the line at the edge of the tab and the highlighted edges of the label and data objects of the fields.

It causes all sorts of funny display problems when they are too close.

RE: Memo field on tabbed form.

        John,

I have memo fields on tabbed forms which I call from buttons on other forms, and I don't have this problem as long as I activate the form on a field that is not a memo field and is not on the form. My form has a character title field which is on the form, but not the tabbed object, and I activate on it. Make sure the memo field is not first on your tab sequence list.

Pat's idea maybe the ticket. I have lots of tabbed objects on forms with memo fields - no problem. But another field always gets focus first, as it happens to be.

Thank you Sewlyn and Al for your response. Yes, a tabbed form will allow memo fields to be placed on them, and I have not problem with all the lables appearing when the individual form is open. My problem occurs when I call the tabbed form from within another form, all the fields appear but not the lables. As I have just started to create this tabbed form, I placed a memo field with label in the middle of another tab, same problem, field appears but not the lable, when I click on the memo field the label appears. If I open the form outside of the calling form it works fine. Sorry I'm a little long winded here, I noticed that when the form was opend for the calling update button, a "update current record" flased on the screed, when it disappeared it left a ghost box. I'm using grey 50 on the page color, the ghose box, for lack of another name, was grey 25. It disappeared when I clicked on the field. Also I've found a solution to my problem, but probably not the answer to my question, if I select the fields only and provide my own label text, everthing work fine. Sorry I don't have enough experience to offer any explaination, just a work around. tks again.

"i"if I select the fields only and provide my own label text, everthing work fine
              "/i"
That's interesting. If you drag a field with a label, it's impossible to make the word wrap feature of the label work. If you create a text object as your label, word wrap works fine. Looks like the text labels have a small, but irritating, bug-like deficiency.

Thanks to all of you for responding, as peter mentioned, using a text box to provide the label, works fine. My memo field is the last in the sequence, so thank you Pat for that suggestion. Tks again
