Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    checkbox IF....THEN syntax

    Hi All,

    I have a form with checkboxes tied to session variables "wk1" "wk2" "wk3" wk4".

I want to run a script from a button on the form that will copy current record in tables (T1, T2, T3, T4)to a master table based on which check boxes are checked.

    I'm trying to use a nested IF...Then...Else

    If var-"wk1 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk1 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk1 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk1 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    Is this correct Syntax?

I keep getting a "wk1" is incorrect data type error when I run the script.

    Thanks
    Marc

    oops should be

    If var-"wk1 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk2 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk3 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    If var-"wk4 = .T. then
    'copy to master table code
    else

    Thanks

        Marc,

If you're working with checkboxes (and not radio buttons), then one or more could be checked, right?

So, don't nest the IF ... END IF sequences, process them one at a time, like this:

        Code:
        'script begins
        if var->WK1 = .t. then
          'do your processing
        end if

        if var->WK2 = .t. then
          'do your processing
        end if

        if var->WK3 = .t. then
          'do your processing
        end if

'and so on and so forth
        'script ends
This kind of script will probably benefit from
        putting the statement

        Code:
        xbasic_wait_for_idle()
after each copy sequence in order to pause the script
        until the copying is finished.

          RE: checkbox IF....THEN syntax

Proper IF/ELSE syntax would be, depending on your situation:

          IF condition
          ELSE IF condition2
          ELSE
          END IF

          ...or....

          IF condition
          ELSE
          END IF

The END IF is not optional. The THEN is optional (I never use it as it doesn't make code any more readable).

            RE: checkbox IF....THEN syntax

            Marc,

I create a layout variable called Logic_test on my Test form then used the drag-and-drop to put that variable on the form itself and changed it to a checkbox format.

            The following script ran perfectly:

            IF var-"logic_test
            ui_msg_box( "TRUE", "" )
            ELSE
            ui_msg_box( "FALSE", "" )
            END IF

            It also works with "IF var-"logic_test = .T." but the "= .T." isn't necessary.

If yours isn't working, I'd have to go along with Martin - make sure your variables are type "logical". You also didn't say *where* you were defining the session variables. Maybe this is the problem. Mine were defined right on the form.

Thanks , I think that is the problem. I defined the variables from the toolbar.

Since a "session" is related to a form, I think any variables created from the toolbar would have to be global in order to be seen on other forms.
