Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Build 1505_1057 for Full and Home Editions

I just downloaded patch 1505_1057 for the full version and build 1505_1507 for the Home edition. Prior to this patch, I downloaded both patches and both would install properly without any problem whatsoever. However, with this patch (1505_1057), when I went to install the Home edition patch after successfully installing the full edition patch, I got the error message telling me that I'm trying to install the wrong patch. I did not get this error message with any of the recent patches.

I have not had to edit the registry for any of the previous installations (same build number for both the Home and Full editions)

Has anyone else experienced this odd behavior?

Dave, if you have both full and home editions installed on the same machine do it this way.

    1) Open a database with the full version.
    2) Close the full version
    3) Patch the full version.
    4) Open a database with the home edition.
    5) Close the home edition.
    6) Patch the home edition.

      Tom,

I tried that (four or five time times) and get the following message:

"Setup has determined that you have Alpha Five V5, and the Alpha Five Runtime installed. Both versions will be updated.

Setup determined that V5 ad the V5 Runtime are installed in the following locations:

      V5: C:\Program Files\A5V5_Home

      V5 Runtime: C:\Program Files\A5V5Tuntime

NOTE: If the above locations are NOT correct, then click Cancel, start Alpha Fice V5 and the V5 Runtime, and then re-try the Patch installation."

I've even rebooted and I still get this message.

      Any other ideas?

the patch programs have not changed in any way for this build.

go back to the patch page and refer to the document "help, I installed the wrong patch"

          Selwyn,

In the registry, ExeLocation says 'C:\Program Files\A5V5_Home', Edition says 'Home' and I still get the same message indicated in my previous post. Will previous patches, I could patch both the Full and Home editions without this message coming up.

            Dave,

While I don't have the runtime installed on this machine, I just updated both Home and Full editions (on this one pc). This would seem to rule out a problem with the patch files themselves. Is it possible you've mis-installed one of them by accident? If so, following the sequences referenced by Selwyn may be the only way to get you going again.

              Tom,

I got it. I reran the Home Edition patch and did NOT patch the runtime, then I ran the Full patch and DID also patch the runtime. All is good.

Hello like Dave I was both Full Home A5 on the same PC.

Home A5 was in folder C:\A5v5H ,and
                Full A5 was in folder C:\Program Files\A5v5

Thought of trying 1) to 6).
But at step 1), I got message that I used the wrong patch. ( attached JPG )

                Grateful if you can assist.
                Thanks

                    Hello Tom,

                    I read your suggestion:
                    1) Open a database with the full version.
                    2) Close the full version
                    3) Patch the full version.
                    4) Open a database with the home edition.
                    5) Close the home edition.
                    6) Patch the home edition

Both Home and Full edition on the same PC.

I did 1) to 2) but could not proceed from step 3)
So I proceed to step 4) 5) & 6). The Home patch successfully updated the Home A5.

But now after doing step 1) and 2), Upon step 3) I get the message that I have the wrong patch ( Home ) when I am running the ( Full ) patch. see attached JPG.

                    Grateful if you can assist.
                    Thanks
