Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Richard,

I tried to help, but your instructions don't square with form or button names and since there are two databases in the files you uploaded I quit looking further. Here's a tip. You'll get more help faster if you make it easy on folks to find the problem in your database. Exact form names, exact button names, click by click, keystroke by keystroke instructions will help a bunch. Otherwise folks who are inclined to help have to burn time searching for the sequence you're having trouble with.

          RE: Lookups

          Ok here's the problem...
I have a customer lookup that Jim C fixed for me and it works great when using it ONLY when the customer file is activated..

What I need to be able to do is to use that 'kind of' or exact lookup from the transaction form.

          Start with main menu
Click on Open Sales Transactions (you may have an 'a' in there between open and sales)
When tx form is active on screen, look in my 'button' bar... second button from the left = Look up a customer..
click on the button and the lookup box appears
pick any customer from the lookup box
NOW you will get the error 'record number is past end of table'.....

If you have the form in 'enter' mode and do the same thing, the error will be : command does not work in change or enter mode...
          That I can understand..

          Hope this is clearer...

            Dick,

            tried again, no joy.

I'm working with the copy of your BNBSales database you posted 12/18/03. I think maybe you've made changes that aren't present in the version you posted. There is no form called "TX", nor is there a custom toolbar that will "Look up a customer". (Or else I'm completely out to lunch here...) Maybe someone else can help you. If not, I suggest you repackage a smaller version of your database and repost it here so I can see what you're talking about.

SORRY ABOUT MY 'SHORTHAND' THE TX FORM TRANSLATES TO ' THE TRANSACTION FORM'....

I just did what I always complain about ... use of terminlogy that is not universal and skipping the 'most obvious to me' steps req'd..

              Won't happen again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please DO NOT CONTINUE working on the problem....
Have made extensive changes to system to cut down on the keyboard input req'd.... System needs to be 'point and click'.
If further help is needed, I will resubmit the zip file.

                thanx very much
