Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Batch processing of Credit Cards

This isn't really an A5 question but I'm hoping somebody out there has found a "source" that allows them to send batches of CC data generated by A5 to be processed all at once.

It seems to me that this is not an uncommon need so I get the feeling I'm looking in the wrong places or not asking the right questions. Everything I've found so far on the internet and the two people I talked to seem to process only one transaction at a time.

I realize each credit card number would get processed separately on the other end but I'd like to upload one file with somewhere between 50 and 400 different credit card payments once a month.

RE: Batch processing of Credit Cards

    Hi Cal,

I process credit cards on a daily basis that can range up to as many as 3000 orders in one batch. I am not sure if this is what you are looking for and exactly what part of the process you need help with so my answer will be vague for now.

I run a series of operations in AlphaFive to create the intial batch. I first run an update operation that will query all cc refunds that have not yet been processed and put todays date into the refund date field and the processed date field. I then run an update operation that will query all orders without a ship date and put todays date into the shipped date field, this operation also puts todays date in the processing date field for all orders with a payment type of M/A/D/V. Once I have completed the update operations I run an export operation that pulls all the orders with todays date in the processed date field and places specific field information into a text file.

The information placed into the text file is the information needed by the merchant software that we use to process the various cc batches for the different companies. We are currently using PC Authorize. I was not involved in the setup of PC Authorize but I then open that software program, open a new batch, import transactions (which is the text file I exported form AlphaFive) and authorize and settle those transactions.

There is a limitation in PC Authorize that only allows me to process a maximum of 500 cc in one batch so if I am processing 3000 orders for that company I break my exported text file into 6 different text files and process them each one at a time through PC Authorize as separate batches.

Basically, if I understood your question correctly, yes it can be done, I am not sure which part of the process you need the details on.

RE: Batch processing of Credit Cards

      Thanks Cheryl,

I've contacted PC Authorize and they are sending me some info. There may be a lot of others that will also handle things like this but all any of them seem to advertise is "accept credit card orders on your website" and that's not what I want to do.

The problem isn't "how to do it in A5"; it's who/where can I find someone who does this?

RE: Batch processing of Credit Cards

We use a program called Retail @dvantage which you can find at GlobalPaymentsInc.com. We do not use Alpha 5 (I'm lurking here since I'm looking for a new DB program), but we process credit cards the way you describe: we collect the data throughout the day, then output what we've collected to an ASCII file built according to Retail @dvtantages's specs, and then we upload the batch using their software. The cards are processed immediately and we can see on the screen and get a report of which cards went were accepted and which were declined.
