Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Form Calc Formula help ...

    I've got a set ...
    Upgrades
    |---- Contact

    It's a 1 to 1 link.

I'm trying to figure out a formula on the form that shows me the upgrades in the query, pulled from data in the Upgrade.dbf. Query could be Quoted, Process, Complete. I have a browse on the form showing records with detail below it. This form is to show all Upgrades globally, not just upgrades for that client.

Is it possible to create a formula to show the totals based upon a query like I'm wanting?

Thank you pro's for your help.

    Bradley,

I am not to sure I totally understand what you need, but if I am assuming correct you want to be able to view all the records in your "Upgrade" table and possibly filter them by Quoted, Process, or Complete.

Since your "Upgrade" table is your parent in your set, this is a simple task.

Make a tabbed object with 2 (or moreif you like)
On the first tab place an embedded browse based on the parent records (Upgrade table)
This first tab can be your "Global" lookup.
After you filter the records by whatever means you like click on the desired record in the browse and change to tab 2 which will show the records detail AND the contacts in a second embedded browse that are associated with that Upgrade.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

I don't think I explained what I need very well. In the Upgrade.dbf there's a field, Amount. When I run a query, say, only Quotes, what I want to know is what the total of the Amount Field for this query only adding all of the records Amount fields together for that query.

Make more sense? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you.

it doesn't sound like the 1 to 1 contact is related to this.

and the total field is tied to the parent, not to child tables.

if the above is true, you don't even need to run a query

add a variable to your form numeric, layout
call it "querytotal" - format it as 10,2

then put a button - call it "Queries"

say this at the onpush event

        ans=ui_get_radio("Select",1,"Quoted","Not Quoted","Other")
        if ans=""
        end 'they cancelled the action
        else
        querytotal.value=tablesum("yourparenttablename","quotedfield=" + quote(ans))
        end if

this would run a query on any of the choices, and refresh the value of querytotal on the form to be what you want.

if you use the above, be sure the radio choices are exactly the same as what is stored in that field.

          Bradley,

To supplement what Martin described here's a working example that may offer a more generalized solution for you.

Unzip the attachment to an empty folder. Open Form1 and get familiar with the handful of records that are there. Then use quickfilter or query by form to run some queries against the form. A new total will appear in the CurrTotalAmt field object almost immediately thereafter.

The explanation is on the form, but for those who don't want to download the example, here's how I've implemented this 'solution':

          1) the OnInit event of the form stores the beginning filter expression for the form in session level variables, and computes the current total figure.

          2) the onTimer event then compares the 'current' filter expression of the form with the 'old' filter expression of the form, and if they're not the same, recomputes the total figure, using tablesum() and the new filter expression.
