Thanks to all for their input and ideas ... I have all the info I need to do what I want now ..

What I was trying to do was take the easy way out and just do a DB compact by closing all the tables and running a5.compact()

I didn't want to allow my users access to the control panel. I also didn't want to take the chance of them having to make choices.

I came very close in my attempt to run a Xdialog box closing all tables, but could not get a winning combination. I wiil now just use a menu selection that will pack, rebuild indexes and update the dictionaries for all tables, omitting the startup table which holds the main menu.
