Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Trigger Happy

    Good Morning,

I believe that I have seen posts for this in the past, but can not find it.

The printers that are used with the application that I made, are network connected. Between spooling, and network speed, a couple of the users will press the print button multiple times, to print one report, and sometimes it plugs up the print job, where it will not print at the printer.

Does anyone have a suggestion where there could be a time delay on the button, where it could not be activated for a period of time? Or any other practical suggestions?

    Thanks Ed

    Ed,

You could deactivate the button as the last step it performs. After the print screen closes, I presume the user is returned to the form. Then on the close button or any other button, you could activate the print button again. (This can be done with action scripting)

I think you could also deactivate the button in conjunction with the timer on the form and then activate the button. I don't have A5 here so I can't check it out. Perhaps others who know more about this than I can add a thing or 2.

I just tested kwn's suggestion. It works fine. Once pressed, the button is disabled. You should re-enable it on a fetch or whatever else you like.

          Hi Ken & Thomas,

I am not quite sure how to do this in detail. Could you two please get me going in the right direction, as I would like to try it.

          Thanks Ed

            RE: Trigger Happy

            Ed,

Right now, when you open the button's OnPush event, you will see either code or and action script/s, depending on how you created the button.

Create an action script by scrolling the right window which lists all the action scripts, and choose Deactivate an Object or the like. Follow the genie. This needs to be placed before any other code runs, so if you have all action scripts, highlight the one you just created and click the up arrow to move it first in line.

Put an Activate an Object action script last in the sequence of scripts or code. That should do what you want.

You've got Deactivate first and Activate last. If, for some reason, they can still do the "no-no", put the Activate on a separate button or the form's close button.

              Thank You Ken,

I understood what you had written, but did not quite know how to implement it.

I will give this a try right now. Thanks for the help.

              Have a Nice Day Ed
