Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

HTML Attachments - opens but looks a mess!

Has any body experienced problems with sending emails with forms as attachments in HTLM mode?

I have a form that prints, faxes, emails as PDF attachment and Rich attachment perfectly, with the exception of a missing logos, lines and boxes in the Rich attachment (I think this is normal!), but the HTML form is all over the place!

When the attachment opens the form is displayed with missing Logo in the form (I am assuming this is caused by non-embedded logos in the form itself?) and there is a single line of unreadable test at the top! Also some of the text has changed colour from the set Indigo to Black!

The PDF for example is an exact replica of the original Alpha form - does anybody know how to achieve the same quality reproduction as the PDF in HTML format, including lines, boxes and Logos?

    Help!

    Regards
    Andy

RE: HTML Attachments - opens but looks a mess!

I was hoping to avoid answering because I haven't used HTML output myself. However, just so you don't feel too lonely, I have heard other comments that certain reports (complex layouts??) don't convert well to HTML.

I've seen this also but the problem does not seem to be isolated just to Alpha. I have similar problems in other applications from time to time. When something converts right, I consider it a bonus. I've seen color shift on graphics in Alpha and try to avoid graphics if I need to output to HTML.

Stay only with text html output. From experience, horizontal/vertical lines don't convert properly. If you design your report using underscores for the horizontal lines and whatever character you can use from the keyboard things work just fine. Forget any graphical features from the tool bar. Otherwise as you have mentioned you will have a huge mess of an output.

Thanks All - for your feedback.

PDF attachments are excellent every detail is perfect, I assume it works similar to a screen caption function? What you see is what you get. Not all my clients use Acrobat reader, even though I include the Adobes download link with every communication. Some people just do not want to use it. The only alternative is to send the document as HTML if I want to retain the same style of design.

I feel a big bonus for a future update would be to enhance Alpha Forms to HTML conversions! Any feed back from you Alpha employees?

          Regards
          Andy

RE: HTML Attachments - opens but looks a mess!

During the v5 beta testing, I noted that the html output didn't seem up to par. Selwyn responded that the html was produced via a 3rd party add-in, that he knew it wasn't as good as we'd all like, but that's what we were able to get at this point. Because it came from another party, Alpha Software wasn't going to try to improve or fix it.

In the same note, he advised me to stick with the pdf output instead, which as we've all seen is flawless.
