Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Meeting Date Function Posted

Just to let everyone know, I've posted a new function in the Code Archive called MeetDate. I needed to create it for an app I'm working on and thought it might be of use to others. I couldn't find anything else out there that could do the same thing.

Basically, it addresses the problem of determining the day of the month where you know the year, the month, the week number and the day number. MeetDate() will then give you the date.

An example might help clarify. Say you always have a meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the month, but need to know what date that is. Using this function for the month of February: Meetdate("2003","02",4,4) yields 26 for the 26th of February. The parameters are, Year(C), Month(C), Wknum(N) and NDay(N) where Sunday=1 and so on throughout the week. (Wednesday=4)

It could use some additional code to correct for errors if someone is so inclined.

Hope it helps someone out there.

    Charles,

Thanks for your Function, I'm sure that I will have a use for it in a project that is under construction at the moment. Maybe the posting from Steve Wokings might help enhance your funtion to get the month number.

Thanks. I'm not sure what you mean by getting the month number. You have to supply the month number in order to do the calculation of which date you are after.

What I needed this for was to calculate future meeting dates for a municipal organization which meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month. I actually used an incrementing variable to go through the months of the year so that I finally obtained all the meeting dates for the organization.

By using this function and then inserting the output into a Word document, I could then publish the results and thus saved a lot of time with everyone sitting around looking at calenders.

        Charles,

Was this strictley a one off exercise just for the fourth Wednesday of every month? I thought that your function would produce the date for the number of times that you wanted to repeat the entry. eg enter number of day of week and the week number of the month and the number of months to be repeated. This would then return a list of dates by the number of months.

The other function in Code Archive from Steve Workings would return the month number from entering the month Name. I just thought it would be a nice touch for your function rather than the user have to count on their fingers the month number and then to enter the number into your function.

The reason that I used month numbers as opposed to month names or abbreviations, was: 1) Everyone uses different month abbreviations (two-letter, three letter, fully spelled out, etc.) 2) I wanted the user to be able to set the month requirement in the expression to a variable and then be able to increment it with a "do while" loop. This method would then allow the user to go over end of years in order to calculate meetings five years in advance.

Hope you see what I mean, but if you think it needs reworking, let me know.

Anyway, I have to go and get ready for a war now. Hope you Brits are on board! See you in the Gulf!

It's not the shoulder to shoulder thing I'm worried about. Just make sure you're armed and have plenty of ammo!
