Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Selection

Using Action Scripting I have put a button on the Main Menu form that is supposed to bring up a list of the reports so one may be selected to print or preview. However, when the button is activated the Select Layout dialogue box appears, but none of the reports are shown although the layout type is designated as "report".

If this is covered in any of the books I would appreciate being so directed. I am missing something.

Have you looked at the AlphaSports form CustQueryReport?

I think it is doing what you are describing. If not, then please post the table/set that you are working with and we'll try to figure out what is not working as expected.

      RE: Report Selection

Thanks for the reply. Alphasports is not doing just what I had in mind. The reports designed for the tables all work as they should if printed/previewed from an individual button on the Main Menu form or on a Report Menu form. What I had in mind was to use Action Scripting so a list of the available reports would appear in a list and then execute the chosen report. Part of the Action Scripting is to "Prompt at runtime" rather than the name of the individual report. This is where it breaksdown. The procedure refers to the Main Menu table which does not have any reports designed for it, so the list is blank. I find no way to change the referenced table or set.

I may be misreading the choice "prompt at runtime" that is shown in the Script Genie, Preview a Layout.

        James

The screen that I was refering to is attached here.

Please note the Select Layout Type and Select Layout to Print fields as the ones that are doing what I think you are looking for.
The advantage of this is that you can specify multiple tables to choose reports from in the Select Layout to Print field.

I also put an image of the action scripting genie with the current table or other table pull down showing. Are you getting this choice?

        This is from build 1397-1028.

Hope that makes sense and helps with your design.

We are on the same page now. I uploaded the latest patch, 1031 and still do not get anything but "current table or set" for the runtime option. I will try reinstalling the patch.

Would this work for you? For one of my clients, I have the following 'Reports' menu written by Selwyn, which displays on OnFlyover.

Dave, thank you for the suggestion. I am not sure what your script does. I am not a programmer and wss relying on Action Scripting to get the job done. It appears my present build of A5V5 (1031) does not give me the options that I need to select the tables/sets that the reports would be based upon.

                    James,

The script goes in the OnFlyover event for the Reports button.

First of all, create a script the run each report (what I've called scpReportOne, scpReportTwo, etc. Then select the script in the previous message. Go into design mode for the form on which the Report button is located. Select the Report button (you'll see the small selection handles around the button). Right click your mouse, select Events and then OnFlyover and the Code Editor dialog box opens. Paste the script in the box. Between

Al, I contacted Alpha support and after much ado they had me change my Windows ME appearance to "Windows Standard". And would you believe that solved the problem.

I want to thank you and Dave for the assistance. Dave's code will be very useful in the future as it shows all the reports, not just those written for a particular table or set.
