Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: Adding blank rows to report

    Bill:
    I have tried this with conditional items and could never get the lines to show up correctly.
    each conditional line would have to show line number,description,price, extention and accounting codes.
    if the actual po only had 1 item, do you conditional fields 13 time.

    Never could get it to work corrctly

      Mark:
      You could do this 2 ways.
      1. have a temporary print table and append the PO that you want to print to that temporary table , add the blank lines, set a sort field for the blank records to 999 so that the blank lines will print after the good data.

      print the report.
      zap the temporary print table.

      2.
      I have a sort field in my table - set the sort field when you append blank lines to 999.
      Then you could run a record delete operation with a filter of sortfield="999" and then pack the table.

      I use both but prefer the temporary table method.
      If you have multiple people keying in data and someone else is trying to add blank lines and print.-could cause some problems.

        RE: Adding blank rows to report

        If you have more than 14 lines just put another set of xbasic code to check for multiple pages.
        page 2 -lines greater than 14 and less than 28.
        page 3 -lines greater than 28 and less than 42

        example
        while record linenumber,2)
        tbl.ponumber = trim(var->ponumber)
        tbl.enter_end(.T.)
        record = record + 1
        var->linenumber = var->linenumber +1
        end while
        tbl.close()

        while record > 14 .and. record linenumber,2)
        tbl.ponumber = trim(var->ponumber)
        tbl.enter_end(.T.)
        record = record + 1
        var->linenumber = var->linenumber +1
        end while
        tbl.close()

          RE: Adding blank rows to report

          I decided for philosophical reasons, to go with the temporary table option. I did not want to be adding and deleting records to one of my primary data tables.

          Action Scripting is used to complete the following steps:

          - The temporary table is zapped.

          - A query operation selects the appropriate records.

          - A blank form is opened to get the focus off of the set to be copied (copy can’t be run from the source table).

          From the blank form the following is run from the ONINT event:

          - A copy operation copies the selected records to the temporary table.

          - The following script is run:

          DIM nvModulus as N

          LET nvCounter = 1

          LET nvModulus = 1

          tblONE=table.open("tmp chain of custody")

          tblONE.fetch_first()

          WHILE tblONE.eof().T.

          LET nvCounter = nvCounter + 1

          tblONE.fetch_next()

          END WHILE

          LET nvModulus=14 - MOD(nvCounter,14)

          Traceln("nvCounter = " + nvCounter)

          Traceln("nvModulus = " + nvModulus)

          FOR I = 1 to nvModulus

          tblONE.enter_begin()

          LET tblONE.Lname = "ZZZ"

          tblONE.enter_end()

          NEXT I

          - The report is previewed so user can print it if they want to.

          - The query is removed.

          - The temporary form is closed. It doesn’t actually display.

          The default value of “ZZZ? is used to place the lines at the end of the table index (last names).

          The following calculated field is used in the report detail to generate either numbered lines or blank lines. The report always generates a form with fourteen lines.

          IF (Lname"ZZZ",IF(run_count(Lname)
