Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can't make tab order stick

Reworking my old V4 input form and cleaning up previous oversights (ok, call that things I should've done and didn't). When I try to set the tab order I get to the end of the objects, the number tabs disappear, save the form and then when it is reopened the tab order has reverted to the previous order. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

This occurs on a tabbed subform. Seem's to work ok on a regular form.

RE: Can't make tab order stick

Just downloaded the latest patch and still can't get the tab order to stick after resetting. Am I doing something wrong here.

Click through each object in the order I want it to tabbed. When the last object is reached, the tabs disappear. Click on save.

RE: Can't make tab order stick

can you send me the table.

the attached file demonstrates setting tab order for a form that has tabbed objects. the tab order was set to cycle through fields in reverse order on each tab.

this did not work before build 1253_1004, but it works now.

i would need to see your form to see why it does not work.

        thanks.

          Hi Ohlen,

I loaded the latest build on a totally new machine and attempted to reproduce the bug situation that demostrated the bug, and it still appears to be fixed.

Here is what I am doing

          1) in the editor selected

Arrange/Set Tab Order/Set Tab order by example

          2) First I select the tab object as object #1

          3) Then I select the first tab (if not already on the first tab)
And select the fields on the first tab page in the order I want them to be in

          4) Then I select the second 'tab' -
And select the fields on the second tab page ....

          5) Then I select the third 'tab'
And select the fields on the third tab page ....

Then I save & Run the form - This works fine for me.

          However:

I did find (however) that if didn't select every field, the form editor seemed a little flaky (It doesn't appear to like saving the form for me if the 'Hint' box is still up).

I suspect that there still may be a bug - but not in the tab ordering (rather in closing out the tab selection).

Have you added any conditional objects to you tabbed form (conditional objects would hide some of the fields for which an order can be assigned).

            Selwyn and Cian,
Your form works fine; however, mine won't. I have objects both on and off the tabbed subform. Could this have anything to do with it. Will zip up the set and send tomorrow.

RE: Can't make tab order stick

              Hi Ohleh

I have not installed the latest build(1004), however I managed to find a different approach to ensure that the fields I placed on the tabbed object are properly cycle from one field to the next.

              1) Create a new form.

              2) Placed the tabbed object in.

              3) Activate the DragDrop list.

              4) Select all the fields that you wished to place in the tabbed object. (enlarge the tabbed object, so that the selected fields may be completely paste in)

              5) Then drag and drop the selected fields into the tabbed object. (DO NOT select one field at a time)

              6) Subsequently, I guess you might be able to to cycle thru the fields in the order you would like them to be.(At least it worked fine for me now)

Think this may help ... I hope ...

              Regards
              Chris

RE: Can't make tab order stick

                Hi Ohlen,

I just received your form, and found that most of the edit controls on the form had tabstop turned off + were disabled.

I executed the following code in the interactive window with the form editor open:

                for i = 1 to salesandpayments.children()
                # obj = salesandpayments.child(i)
                # if obj.class() = "type-in field"
                # obj.object.tabstop = .T.
                # obj.object.enabled = .T.
                # end if
                #next

Subsequently I could set the tab order for *all* the fields in the tabbed form, however I did notice some repaint issues that I will need to address (i.e. the ordering 'tabs' are not always displaying when you switch to the next tab).

Let me know if this helps or not, Thanks
                -Cian

RE: Can't make tab order stick

                  Cian,

Many were disabled since they display fields from other tables for information only or are filled in by a lookup in another place. However, I pasted your script into the interactive window, executed it a line at a time and subsequently every edit field in the form was enabled and had the tab stop property set. Then I tried to set the tab order on all 82 (or 83) objects. When I save the layout, the tab order reverts to whatever it was previously.

This form was moved over from my V4.5 application. I'll try designing a whole new form a step at a time to see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

RE: Can't make tab order stick

Could a corrupt object cause this symptom? I kept eliminating objects and eventually the set tab order worked. But I could find no pattern or object that caused this.

RE: Can't make tab order stick

Tab order shouldn't be affected by corruption of an object - If there is corruption I would be surprised if the form saved at all.

Maybe I need to try ordering the objects on the form you sent, but attempt to set the exact same order that you did (i.e. maybe I am not seeing the bug because maybe I am assigning a different order to the objects - which just happens to work).

                        Cian,
When I remove all RTF objects from the tabbed subform, the order sets as it should. Place a RTF on a page of the tabbed subform and the tab order will not save. RTF's on the main part of the form don't affect the tab order.

This problem of making tab order stick on forms with "tabbed objects" is still occuring (build:1506)Removing the all RTF objects on the tabbed objects does fix it.

If this is a bug that never got resolved, if you are fluent with xbasic, you could try setting the tab order at the oninit event of the form.

if you aren't, send the table/tables (and all files with the same name - like customers.* necessary to view the form) and I'll see if I can give tou a leg over on same.

                              Thanks martin,

the sscritp on initiate is a good idea, I could do that. But for the moment I've decided just to use plain text rather than RTF.
