Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Menu Bar Missing

Just read the postings about this problem and done what is suggested in there :

    - delete registry and restart software : doesn't solve anything
    - my standard font size is normal

Anybody any suggestions on how to solve this problem....without menu bar the software is pretty unusable.

    Hi xavier,
When I have had this happen, a simple reboot has cured it. You didn't mention you had done this so worth a try.

Xavier, try this. It's an old message I found with a search.

        IT'S BACK!

I went to display properties, Appearance, Effects, and switched menu effect to "Scroll" from "Fade" and smooth edges from "Standard" to "Clear Type". I selected Apply and viola the menu returned before my very eyes!

I then returned the settings back to their original settings and the menu remained.

              Xavier,
The only other thing I can think of doing at the moment is to take off your video cards hardware accelleration as it has been mentioned that certain configurations with video cards can cause some strange happenings. If this works then it is a video card problem usually.
Other than that, a reinstall of Alpha may be in order---but if so first delete any references to alpha in your registry.
Off to work now but will think about it and check back afterwards to see if someone else has had any other suggestions that worked. I hope so as I am out of ideas currently.

                Hi Mike,

Just tried to re-install the software (registry deleted), installation OK - problem still exists.

Then as you suggest I worked on the graphic board : Have put the accelleration to a minimum -- no result, the menus don't appear.

Do the people of Alpha software sometimes look at the message boards ?

                  Mike,

Don't ask me why but now sometimes they appear and sometimes they aren't there...

I'm playing in the alpha software demo database "alphas sports". When the control panel is not maximized the menu's aren't there and when you maximize the control panel and you open for example a report with the design button the menu's appear and stay even if after that action you make smaller again the control panel. This is not graphics if you ask me but a nice and big bug.

                  Your idea on that ?

Could you attach a screen shot showing this for us, while using AlphaSports?
Might give us some ideas. -- tom

Suggest you verify your system display font size.

                        1) right click desktop
                        2) choose properties
                        3) choose appearance
                        4) set font size to Normal

If this is already your configuration, then I recommend you reinstall Alpha Five after making the changes (and saving your registration number), per this thread:

Tom, see this thread above - all this has been tried already, doesn't change a thing.

                          But thx for your help.

Grasping at straws here... First off, does this happen when you are using your own database or some of the sample databases given on this messageboard, etc??? If not I would get another copy of AlphaSports as yours may be corrupt. I think there is, or has been a separate download of AlphaSports.
In addition, if you plan on modifying AlphaSports I recommend that you copy that database beforehand...that way when you eventually totally mess it up(as I have!!) you can revert back to the original when wanted.
                            Mike

And to answer another question you had....Yes the Alpha staff does regularly visit this messageboard.

No it's not something related to Alphasports it happens with all databases even new created ones.
