Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Changing columns

    Is there anyway to reverse right to left column, so a report shall print the record #1 in the right column instead of the left, when we have report with 2 column width?

    Re: Changing columns

    David,
    Sounds like by simply reversing the order would accomplish this....unless I am not understanding the question.

        Re: Changing columns

        David,
        If like in my screenshot, then I think it is doable with some work. I used 2 subreports and filtered by record number for simplicity...used

        Code:
        recno()>=round_up(reccount("products")/2,0) for the Left subreport
        and
        Code:
        recno()<round_up(reccount("products")/2,0)
        for the right.

        Much more would be required to actually do this though--perhaps even creating another field with a row count (one way).

        But should be able to just take the second half of the records, find the first recno() of that half and place all records >= to that on the left side...etc.

        If the records are first filtered in some way then would have to take that into consideration as well.

        EDIT: am not used to right to left thinking so the above should be
        Code:
        recno()>round_up(reccount("products")/2,0) for the Left subreport
        and
        Code:
        recno()<=round_up(reccount("products")/2,0)
        for the right.....but gets you the idea I think.

            And you couldn't have said this in your initial post?? Regardless, what progress have you made in the last 2 days on this report? Anything that even comes close?

            Without having a sample from you with some dummy data showing what you have so far and what filters and such you may have,....and all the criteria you want/need in the report up front....and a picture, drawing, what-have-you that somewhat shows what you want to end up with...

            I don't believe many people can help without most/all of the above...at least not without playing a guessing game for the next week or more. With all the functions at hand within Alpha there sure seems a way to do almost anything.

            ---what have you tried so far?? Can you sort prior to the report?? Does the data wanted in the report include ALL the data or has it been filtered first??? These are just the simplest of questions that need to be addressed by anyone wanting to help....and which a sample would answer very readily so long as explicit instructions are given.

            Just a few thoughts I had....you noticed I did not address your problem at all---I really cannot without more information....and at this point I am not even sure if you are ready to be helped without you first helping us by giving all the necessary information...if in doubt on what to give when asking a question, simply give everything possible...especially taking the time to create a small sample.

                    David,
                    Not a big deal but next time add your database files as well, the adb, alm, alb, alx files....that way a new database doesn't have to be created by someone--someone wanting to look at the sample just has to navigate to it and open.

                    Still waiting for info....be specific.

                          Hi David,

                          I have been round and round with your problem for bit and made some progress....enough that I think you can experiment around a bit.

                          Using what I stated in Post #4. I know the record number is not how you want it sorted.... :) But yes it is ! You simply duplicate your table, name it something else, and either zap or use overwrite as a choice in a Copy Operation. The way to do this is to first have the Genie create the Copy Operation and save it. The problem is you cannot choose the order with Action Script. So right click on the saved Operation, choose "view xbasic" and then use either of the choices that are presented--to use confirmations or not....I chose not to but a pesonal preference really. Then Copy the xbasic and say put it onto a button, or wherever really but for testing a button is well suited for now. Change the Order to equal your last name field.

                          Now base your report on this new table and use the info in Post 4 to get you going (you could use ceiling() instead of roundup() I believe). I think you should be able to get something along the lines you wanted this way.

                          I will post a small sample if necessary of what I did if necessary. If more records than will fit on a page then you can either know beforehand how many will fit or figure out how to limit them to so many per page.....

                              Also it's spliting the whole dbf that means when it finishes half of the name on right side it starts the left column ex: dfr file of 200 name the first 100 are continuasly in right column no matter how many pages the rest 100 in left we want that second page (shall be left column not contituation on page (2) 3 it shall be on left side
