Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Maybe I don't see it, but I don't see where v7 will allow you to open another database except what's in the predefined list. If you close the opening genie, A5 closes as well. "More databases" gives you the predefined list only. If you edit the list, you can add one of your own and then open that. But you can't navigate the drive to quickly select an existing db. Is this a bug? (I sure hope so).

                Peter,

On the "Database/ Tasks" tab, select "more Databases" and navigate to the .adb you wish to open.

Its the same as V5 and V6

                  Hi Scott,

You are right - partly. If I click on "more databases" and select "default folder", then it does open up the ui_get_file dialog. The difference (at least in this build) is that if you close the genie, A5 closes. In v5 & v6, closing the genie does NOT close A5, but shows the toolbar allowing you to easily navigate and open something else. The way it is now in v7 is more difficult and less intuitive. Not good.

                    Another bug:

If you do the above and navigate to a certain folder, then press cancel, you get an empty A5 window with no toolbar or genie or nothing. Then you have to close A5 and start over.

you are using an unregistered v7 (i.e. a trial version). the trial version always displays the news tab when a datbase is closed.

if you enter a license number (which you can't because you don't have one yet), the behaviour is identical to v6.

did you move the date/time on your system forward, and then back?

the v7 beta is just like a trial version. it will work for 30 days. since it is less than 30 days since i released the first beta it should still be working.

the trial version is designed to immediately expire if it detects that the date/time on the computer has been moved backwards (in an attempt to circumvent the 30 day limit on a trial). it seems that this is the only explanation I can think of as to why it will not allow you to continue in trial mode.

I cannot find documentation on the new List View
The Web Help is still the V6 version and the downloaded help only contains whats new in V7 section

From The Genies I can see that you can add things like grid lines, but it is not clear whether you can control individual cells (ie: Colour of cell, Click event on cell).

No I did not move the date.
I just downloaded the latest and installed over the earlier beta.
