Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: YTD Totals

    Gabe,

Thank you for your extra attemps.

I feel that Cheryl has best explained what I need to accomplish.

YTD is just that. From a known date in the past to the currently selected date. Please do not get side tracked on that definition.

Your report does show the Total YTD but without the currently selected pay details. Also is a date erlier than the last date is selected the YTD value remains the same. The YTD value on the report should be different for each date selected, dont you agree?

      Cheryl:
Like I said, Keith in the form sounds like he wants to go back one year from the pay date shown on the row, that's what I did.
now when you say you want the total for the pay period, I am not really sure what a pay period is!! is it one week, one month ? exactlly what?

Ok. Maybe the filter expression isn't so simple after all.

Here's a working example. Let me know if there are any questions.

Unzip the attachment to an empty folder.

The button that calls the report sets the date range values. All the rest of the work is done in the report layout itself.

        Have fun tearing it apart.

          RE: YTD Totals

          Gabe,

Keith wants to show the 'current calendar year'. Have you never received a pay check with a stub or has all your work always been 1099 contract?

The sample Keith provided shows monthly payroll figures. If I select the 2/28/2005 row in the embedded browse, what I want on the report is this:

          gross tax net
          800.00 160.00 640.00 current pay date selected
          ---------------------------
          1800.00 360.00 1440.00 YTD totals

The ytd totals would include any records with pay dates of 1/1/2005 up to my selected date 2/28/2005. In this case that would be two records, 1/31/ and 2/28.

If I select the 3/31/2005 row I want this:

          gross tax net
          800.00 160.00 640.00 current pay date selected
          ---------------------------
          2400.00 480.00 15200.00 YTD totals

          If I select 1/31/2005 I want:

          gross tax net
          800.00 160.00 640.00 current pay date selected
          ---------------------------
          1000.00 200.00 800.00 YTD totals

          Thanks

              RE: YTD Totals

              Gabe,

The display portion is now correct, but what is actually being displayed and ytd totals are incorrect.

You are using tdate=date() and the tdate should be equal to whatever the date is in the payslip_date field of the record that I select in the embedded browse.

Your YTD totals are still showing a total of all the records in the browse and not just the current ytd totals.

              Thanks
              Cheryl

btw, Keith has called it a night, since he is in the UK he is a wee bit later than we are here in the US. Hopefully you will be able to figure this out for him, and if not, maybe somebody else can.

YTD totals (starting the first day of the current calendar year).

                      RE: YTD Totals

                      Gabe,

You are now showing the correct information for the details of the pay date selected. However, the ytd totals are still incorrect. Regardless of which row I select, I get the totals of all the records.

If I choose 2/28/2005, this total should NOT include any of the records with a date of 2004 nor should it include any of the dates after 2/28/2005.

                      Thanks

This is what a pay stub (the ones I know) would look like. Some modifications could be made to simplify it. Let me know if that's what you are looking for.
