Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    To Aaron: Email question

The attached broadcast email cocks up the link on the recipient's end as I've shown here. How come? Anything I can do about it? Thanks for your help. Merry Christmas!!

    "Dear Burt,

Thanks for the music order we found in our Internet box just now. As of
this writing, it is being manually processed by our clerks.

Just click this link after 7:30 p.m. today, New York time. You can view
our entry of it, along with the status of each item and any comments we
may have for you, and hopefully your invoice with shipping details too.

We appreciate your letting us help fulfill your print music needs.
Please feel free to call or write with any concerns.

    Burt Jellinek, proprietor"

    RE: To Aaron: Email question

It looks like there is a non-printable character between
    number and 000973

If you are sending links, you should do so using HTML anyhow because, with plain text, you never know how it's all going to wrap on the other end.

But not everybody we send this to (me included!) uses html email. So, okay, I'll try to make own workaround.

Worked for me. What is the recipient getting?

What program are you using that doesn't support HTML email? The only programs I'm aware of are text-based clients on unix or vms boxes. In that case, you can send HTML & Plain text together and let the client sort it out. Best of both words.

RE: To Aaron: Email question pt 2

I'm using the Alpha Five v.5 built-in client (haven't upgraded my personal box to v.6 yet), which I've programmed to do a mass mailing. "http://68.167.39.100/packlinesasp.a5w?number=100000973" looks good in the ISP's email browser (I go there 1st to weed out the spam prior to downloadng) but gets jiggered somehow on the road my machine: "http://68.167.39.100/packlinesasp.a5w?number000973". This anomele doesn't happen with the other part of the "if" statement link that's in the message when pertinent: "http://68.167.39.100/foyer.a5w?acct=JE6004"

Then I wrote the whole message in HTML and sent to myself. Same thing. Works great in the Covad browser. Even works great in Outlook (which I don't use 'cause I think it's hacked!). But the body html field of the Alpha client shows "a href "http://68.167.39.100/packlinesasp.a5w?number000973""Order"/a". Still bunged up!

Sending the number field alone works just fine though, in all browswers (Version 5 included):"Order Number = {field}". It's the "=10" part that changes in transit somewhere.

So, the problem only occurs when you receive the email from within A5? All other email clients display it correctly?
