Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Citrix Slow?

    Hi All

I have an appliaction with quite a large form,on my local network this form takes about 18-20 secs to open.

I am running citrix on my server and wish to access the same application from a remote site, when trying to open the same form from the remote site, it takes approx 3-4mins to open.

Does anybody have any ideas why it could be opening so slow, we are on a dsl 512 connection at both ends.

    Thanks in advance

    John

Citrix remote performance is most affected by the server/Citrix setup, amount of RAM in the server, server hard disk speed and the server OS. What OS is the server using?

I haven't run V6 on a Citrix server so I can't comment on the number of remote sessions that might "choke" a server. It seems unlikely that, if you are the only remote user, you would see that much difference when running an app remotely. On the other hand, if there are multiple simultaneous users, and the OS is Windows 2K or Windows Server 2003, there might be an issue.

      Hi Finian

My brother in-law who installed the server and citrix would like to ask:

      The problem is:

When we execute the application on a LAN connection it takes 20 secs to open a query this is after you have logged into the application through Citrix (we are launching it through Citrix). When a user accesses the same application and makes the same query on the Citrix server through the WAN or after we installed a bandwidth throttling application, it takes over 4 min to return anything. Once it has response it runs perfectly but when you execute another application request it takes the same time to respond.

What I think it could be trying to do is, accessing something or referencing something on a local workstation or folder which doesn't exist cause it is a Citrix connection and may not have permission or access . With the bandwidth being limited it takes a long time to respond and once it's completed the checks to see what it's trying to do or access it looks at the local Citrix server anyways (I Think) and opens the application anyways.

Is there any settings in Citrix or command switches which I need to execute the Alpha application with that forces it to only look for the templates or references at a specific location. Cause my friend is talking something about database shadowing (not quite sure how shadowing works) and I am just scared that when we launch it through Citrix it tries to do this shadowing thing as if it was running on a remote desktop and trying to open the templates in the same manner and not to a specific forced location specified a command switch

If you can give me any guidance or assistance I would greatly appreciate.

      Kind Regards

      Charles Grace

Fortunately I don't have to set up the Citrix server myself, so there's not much help I can offer there. At minimum, to be able to set up the server, you need to be ables to define the user profiles and permissions. Try giving yourself full access to start with and see how it goes.

As a matter of curiosity, how many users will you have? Is there a reason that you selected Citrix (more costly/complex) over Terminal Services?

Citrix has a very active message board where you may be able get more answers.
