Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Exporting to Excel

Is it possible to export our data to an excel sheet for Alpha 5 Version 6? I have been looking around the program and don't see how to do that.
    Thanks!

Are you asking about something different than an export operation?
    There can be only one.

Funny this should pop up about the time I am trying to do the same thing. I do not know alot about xbasic. I have been playing with the action scripting. The action scripting has to extremes. It either exports the whole database or nothing at all. If I try to run a filter of anykind it gives me an error message. (See attached)

Melvin I have modified your code that you had referenced and I can get it to compile fine. I am just having problems implementing it. When I create the button it asks for an action script, xbasic or a script. The "result = make_excel(fname, Child_db_name)" does this go in the script location? If so where do I place my xbasic?

It's really to bad that the action scripting does not allow filters. Maybe I am not doing something correctly. Although it does seem pretty straight forward.

Chris, showing the error message does not provide enough information into the problem. You need to create a separate post for that, attach a zip with the database and enough information to duplicate the problem.

As for where the script goes, just create a button, chose xbasic code and then paste the entire script in the code.

I must have missed something on your scripting as it does not work for me when I do that. The button gets pressed, but nothing happens. Is there maybe an issure with me not changing (fname or child_db_name) I may not be telling it to look at my Po_item table.

                Ooops, my bad.

I just realized I implemented that script as a function.
So a better answer to your question would be to create that function in the code tab (new function).

Then just create your button, choose xbasic and paste

                Code:
                result = make_excel("<filename>", <"Child_db_name>")

                into the xbasic code.

                NOTE: replace
<filename> and <"Child_db_name> with the actual name of the
Excel file you want to create and the name of the child table.
                Leave the quotes.

If I understand correctly you have a button which runs a saved operation which is based on "Current Selection of records". Unless you quick filter, or use some other query method, the current selection of records is the last used query. You have nothing to make the current selection of records be only the visible record if that is what you are wanting.

I wasn't paying attention and edited your form in V8. I'll see if I can redo in V5 which should be compatible.

testingdatabase2.zip was done with v5 and I added a show all action after the export.

Your database works just like I would like, thank you.

Now I have to figure out why I cannot duplicate it in my application. I have to go back and double check all of the area's.

Did you examine the four actions for the export button?

Yes, It still wants to select all the records. I did notice that I had True in the skip field in field rules. Fixed that and it still selects all records. Now it has to be something else with my database. I have compared the 5 items that you had on your second example. Yours still works. I am most definetly missing something. It is acting like the Quick Filter is not working and it just gets skipped.

I did miss something. Corrected the problem and everything works great Thank You!
