Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is my Beta v7 corrupted - or is it a bug?

    Good morning,

I've been working in v7 Beta for a few days and am just now encountering this problem in only one database. The database has 8 tables and they are all experiencing this problem. However, prior to today, they worked just fine with v7.

The problem is that when attempting to do anything in a simple default browse, several things happen. The curser blinks. Records won't delete. Records won't accept any edits. Anytime I try to edit a record or add a record, I get the error message: "Enter must begin first."

At first I thought I had done something silly with a validation rule. But this error message is happening on a table that has no field rules, whatsoever.

In the couple tables that I need to work with today, neither have indexes. In the other tables in the db, some have indexes, reports, forms, etc., and others don't.

What happens if I work with the tables in V6 after I've already opened them in V7?

    Bug or corruption?

    Thanks,
    Wanda

    Have you -

Packed all database tables & reindexed
    Compacted the database

If so, what is result when you run in V6 - I have not experienced any problems (apart from some control & tooolbox conflicts which have now been addressed) hwn moving between V7 & V6

      Works fine in v6

I opened the db and tables in v6 and the flickering and other problems as described above don't exist. I'll report it as a bug.

      Good day,
      Wanda

Oops - couldn't see your reply when I replied to my post...yes, tried packing, rebuilding indexes - even created an index to rebuild.
        Thanks, Michael.

Or - maybe not. I closed v6, opened v7 to report a bug, and found the screen and edit/change/enter, etc all working properly, again.

          Anyone experience anything like this?

          Thanks,
          Wanda

Thanks, Ken. I reported it as a bug. Glad I have your confirmation. Did you resolve the problem? If not, and you have V6, open it in V6, close it, then go back and open it in V7 to see if that somehow "fixes" it.

              Cheers,
              Wanda

Did that but no luck. It also goofed up the ole objects in v6. the apps were done in v6 and when I opened them in v7, the problems began. Closed out v7 & opened v6. Now I can't get the tool bar, won't load ole objects (v6).

Your toolbar conflict issues sounds like a problem taht was fixed in the last V7 beta patch. Make sure you are running Build 3849

You will need to re-apply the last V6 full patch to fix your toolbar problem,, but after that you should not have conflicts with V7

I have V7 Build 3859, System Addins Build 2061. I installed this patch before using v7. Per your suggestion, I reinstalled the last v6 patch and my tool bar is back.

                    Thanks Mike
