Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WOOHOO!!!! Local_Variables editing outside the main function, that updates and refreshes the keylist is exactly what I needed!!!! I am so happy and thrilled right now thank you so much...

    This is the final function that fixed it all...I never knew you could pass the local variables to another function, I've always had to remake the variables and hehehehehhehehehe all that... I'm so happy.

    Code:
    FUNCTION RefreshList as V(LocVar as P)
    With LocVar
    FT = "WO_ID="+Current_Order
    Task_Count = tablecount("workorders_tasks",FT)
    Tasks = "KL=workorders_tasks,{keylist_build('H=.025,1:0[],2:80[Description],3:10[Quantity],4:10[Time]',''+WO_Task_Usage,invert(''+Time),alltrim(Description),''+Quantity,''+Time)}{"+FT+"}"
    ui_modeless_dlg_setfocus(Title)
    ui_dlg_ctl_goto(Title,"[%@Tasks%.130,15Selected_Task!Tasking_*]")
    sys_send_keys("{HOME}")
    End With
    END FUNCTION

      Re: xdialog listbox refresh

      At the risk of being redundant ..

      While I was at lunch I realized that the return variable doesn't have to be set to the last item, necessarily. If you set it to a value that exists in the list such as, for example, the value for the record you just added, then it will work.

      Also, the return variable is actually "Value" so all you need to get from the table is the value in the field "value".

      For some reason I couldn't figure out, without the ui_yield() or a message box, the focus would go to the record after the one just added. With ui_yield() the correct record gets focus.

        Re: xdialog listbox refresh

        Passing the variables with the local_variables() pointer really streamlines code and forever banishes the "should I dimension this as shared? global?". Using this method, you need only dimension the variables once and as local and have no confusion no matter how many functions you may call within the script/function. It took me a while to realize how useful it is.

          Re: xdialog listbox refresh

          FYI Tom Cone has pointed out to me that the keylist build is not needed in the GetList() function. As long as you set the variable value, the list gets updated.

              Re: xdialog listbox refresh

              I was very scared that listboxes were out of the question, and as I've already used several throughout my application I was very happy to find out I could continue as planned. Otherwise things would have been very messy for me, lol, and a long longer to get this application fully functional. Thank you Finnian and Tom for your insightful brainstorming...

              I hope this helps others as well since I could not find a post focused on this topic. I'm still a little uncertain that refreshing the variable outiside of the dialog was the complete answer, because I still don't understand the problem. I am happy that it has been worked around though. :) You made my month for sure.

              Finnian do you work with Tom? How did he tell you without it being posted? :) secret messages maybe? hmm....

                We're in adjoining states (Ga and Fl) and I keep my eyes pointed South for smoke signals. Just kidding, he sent me a private message, which anyone can do if you enable private messaging in your message board setup.
