Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Current record customise

    Hi there,

I am using an action script from "Reports" category, "Display 'Print current record dialog'. I have attached this script to a button which I have labelled "Statement Print" The dialog allows one to select the Layout type (Form; Report; Label; etc). I need to simplify the selection for my user and have the system auto-select Report and Print Option Print. Is there a way I can do this ?

I have attached a similar script to a button which I have labelled "Statement Email". I need to simplify this to auto-select option Email, layout type Report.

If this action script cannot allow this to be done, what other method can I use ?

    Looking forward.
    Dave Mac

Need a little clarification. Do you still want the user to be able to choose the layout type or do you just want to print the statement. There is a separate action script element to do that where you can choose appropriate settings.

The options tab of the Print a Layout action script lets you specify Print or Email as an attachment.
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan,

      Thanks for the response.

Want to simplify user interaction. No need to choose the layout type. Just want to print the statement.

I tried "Print a Layout" action script, but was not able to select only the current record.

I have a problem with using the email. I have an email address within the current set (debt.E_mail). How can I use this email address to send the statement without having to get the operator to key in the address ?
(The only reference for addresses is the Outlook Express address book).

      I am attaching my db.

To get to my Statement Print enter the following :

      1. Push Button Debtors Ledger - 1
      2. Push Button Enquire Accounts - 6
      3. Find by key dialog - Key 24. 24 CARROTS MARKETING will display.
      4. Push Button Select Profile
      5. Select Generate Debtors Statement (Script "Print Current Rec")
      6. Print Current Record - Layout type Report Preview

To get to my email address that I need to use enter the following :

      1. Push Button Debtors Ledger - 1
      2. Push Button Update Accounts - 5
      3. Find by key dialog - Key 24. 24 CARROTS MARKETING will display.

The email address [email protected] (which is field debt.e_mail and is my address for testing purposes) is what I need to use in Print Current rec.

(Incidentially, when I do email the Statement to myself it emails at 10% size. How can I get this to use 100% size ?)

Sample has two new buttons. One to print and one to email (appropriate forms).

          Hi Stan

          Thanks for the samples.

I was trying to generate a script outside of the Form which I see is not as effective in Printing / emailing current record as a button event on the form.

Thanks for all the help that you have given during 2007.

All the best for 2008 to you and your family
