Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Getting rid of v8

I am having trouble with v8 on win2k as discussed in another thread. There are no toolbars.
I want to uninstall v8 and do a reinstall to see if this clears up the problem. Since the original v8 install was from the beta and has been progressively updated with new builds there is no (or invalid) install.log so I can't do normal uninstall.

My question is, how much of it do I need to get rid of to do the reinstall and hopefully correct the problem. I can delete the v8 program directory and/or all the v8 related registry keys.
Do I need to delete all the registry keys or just the program?

No registry expert, but look for "A5V8" in the registry. I see entries under CURRENT_USER & LOCAL_MACHINE under the Software node, plus various configurations for add-ons.

I doubt you have to do anything in the registry, I have installed/uninstalled/installed plenty of times on W2000 and XP.

      Thanks Steve,
I can do a search of the registry to delete all references, but don't want to if for no benefit. Was hoping someone from Alpha would comment on the necessary level of removal. I assume since I haven't heard otherwise that this problem is just me at the moment, but it's pretty annoying.

        Russ,

I installed the beta and upgraded all along just like you on a win2k machine and see the bars just fine. I don't know what to tell you but thought you should know.

Thanks Dave, I'll do a delete and reinstall and see if that fixes it.

I deleted the v8 app folder, all references in the registry and reinstalled . All good to go agian as far as I can tell. At least got the toolbars back. For any one else that runs into this, the codejock and charting stuff has a load of registry entries, A5 itself has some but not too many. I guess I should have done this in the first place.

              Hey Russ,

Do you think defragging the hard drive might help this?

                Russ,

Are you saying A5 V8 doesn't have an uninstall feature? Does it in the XP Control Panel "add/remove programs"?

                  Re: Getting rid of v8

I'm not saying that. I assume the link from the uninstall app in the control panel was broken to the uninstall log file that is needed to uninstall. This is probably due to the installation of a lot of betas on top on each other or it's a gremlin. Normally it's no problem to uninstall Alpha 8 (or at least the earlier versions where I have done it)
