If you are a stooge-holic, you must have seen the episode in which the stooges built a house. If you haven’t, well it is not hard to imagine what could possibly go wrong if the stooges took upon themselves to carry out such an assignment. I think somewhere towards the end when Curley's feet got stuck in cement, they blew up the cement with dynamite and along with it the whole house..Or the other episode where they designed a house and in the end the bathtub wound up on the wall ..
I have made a decision to quit the message board and am glad I did. If nothing else, I needed to get away as I have a mountain of more important and urgent things to do, but also, I needed to upgrade my databases. For quite sometime, whenever I looked at my databases, I always thought to myself: something wrong with this picture. If some engineer from alpha or some other database programmer looks at my db or other's, they will be laughing the same way I laugh watching the stooges built a house. Don't take me wrong, some of the applications I developed will rival any commercial ones and I could have made stand alone applications and sold them as such but have no desire to do so simply because there is a lot more to that than just selling a product. You have to stand behind your product, there is a lot of maintenance and upgrades. Simply stated, it is not what I do for living and I have no time whatsoever for such endeavors. But for quite some time, I had this idea swirling in my head of taking a completely different approach in development, but I never put it to test. Having gotten away from the board and focused on my own databases, I did just that and it worked like a charm. The funny thing is, well it's not really funny at all, but alpha never presented such idea, which is quite amazing to me! However; they are under no obligation to do so, they offer you the tools and the rest is up to you. Not only it will solve many major problems that alpha and perhaps many other programs have struggled and still are struggling with but also the simplicity of it defies logic.
I have no desire to return to the board, but this is way too important not to mention. Quite possibly, this the way everyone or most everyone will develop in the future. If alpha takes note of this, there will be quite a change in philosophy as to future upgrades. You pretty much have to disabuse yourself of every notion you have in mind about development, or almost every one.
I know this is bound to draw the ire of many, particularly those who hate to think and believe they wasted their time learning and perfecting something that will be obsolete. Well, that's one reason I don't wish to get into too much details in this at this point and waste my time and others, but if there enough interest. I will.
