Is it just me, or does the last update of Alpha 5 cause the screen refresh rate to slow down considerably? I reverted to previous update to alleviate this problem.

The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines
The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.
Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.
Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.
Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:

Re: Slow Refresh Rate since last update
Yes, I've noticed a slight slowdown of the refresh and painting of the forms and browses under XP and very long delays under VISTA. With Vista Home Premium on my laptop it is so bad that it is just about impossible to do any edits of forms because of the excruciatingly slow repaints every time you go from the script editor back to the form.

Slow Refresh Rate of Screens
I had previously posted that since the 1794_3091 update on July 19th, the screen refresh rates have been very slow when either changing to another form or switching between "design mode" and "form view". The problem still persists in the July 23rd update 1794_3092.
It appears that the menus at the top of the screen refresh themselves twice delaying opening of the page. I find this to be true on forms where I am using custom menus and on forms where I am not.
This problem was not present before these updates, and there was only one reply to my previous post confirming this problem. I am far from a computer guru, but my feeling is that this is a bug.
The problem was first noted on my desktop with 768 MB RAM, but also occurs on my laptop with 1 GB RAM.
I would appreciate any other confirmations of this problem or feedback. If it is indeed a bug, I cannot send Alpha 5 a copy of my database as it contains confidential information protected by HIPAA laws. I am not sure on how to proceed.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Slow Refresh Rate of Screens
I have been slow updating but I had updated one computer to the lastest update from 7/23. I have a hidden form but it is not hidden anymore. Since the screen refreshes are so slow you can view the hidden form then it will be hidden. I wish I knew how to send in a bug report on this problem.

From the Alpha Five control panel, click Help, then choose "Send a bug report".
I just do not know how I would explain to Alpha programers to show them that the screen updates are now slower then before with an older version of alpha. Some forms come right up. Some such as one of my hidden ones come up as shown before they go and hide. I have just not been able to get it to happen every time with new update but I had never had it happen with the older updates before this month's updates.

If you can duplicate with Alphasports, is there a particular form that shows the problem, or do they all? Can you describe exactly what you are doing.
If it is specific to your database, can you send us a copy to test on our machines.
Thanks.

Re: Slow Refresh Rate since last update
Not being able to reproduce the problem yet, I don't even know where to begin.
Can anybody narrow down the cause of the slowdown, by removing elements from the application that have the problem?
I.e.
1) If toolbars and/or menus are removed from the application forms (set both to <none> on each form), does the speed problem go away (this would tell us that there is probably a conditional toolbar expression that is taking a lot longer).
2) If browses are removed from the application forms does the problem go away? (this would indicate that some fix to browse may be causing a cycle)
3) Does removing tab controls (flatten the form) cause the problem to go away? (tabs have undergone some work in recent builds)
4) If any of the forms have Activex controls, does removing the activex controls speed things up (which would mean we should focus on changes to OLE automation).
5) I am assuming that the applications are desktop - i.e. no web server running in the background - if the the web server is running, we should look at changes in the threading model.
Thanks,
Cian

Re: Slow Refresh Rate of Screens
What I have noticed is that when a new form displays on the screen or a switch is made back and forth between "form view" and "design mode", the menu bar and tool bar both re-refresh at a slow rate, after the form is displayed. This makes operation of Alpha 5 excruciatingly slow and almost unbearable to work with.
Perhaps the Alpha 5 engineers are already aware of this problem, which occurs on both my desktop and laptop computers, or will see my post and fix the problem.
I thought perhaps most users would have experienced this problem.

Re: Slow Refresh Rate of Screens
I've noticed that if the menu bar on the top of the screen is removed, by setting the menu view to <None> in design mode, the problem does not exist.
I am not an expert, so someone who knows computers and databases better than I needs to test this. But at present, it appears to me that the problem is due to something in the menus.
Hope that this helps solve this problem.
