Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    File not found error

I have a table storing backup logs. The fields are:
LogDate, LogTime, Fullpath (path and filename)
I am trying to write a restore script, but keep getting file not found error. The file opened using explorer and no achive attributes. This is the code that was used for testing on the interactive script panel: "vBack" is the variable holding the contents of the Fullpath field of the Backup log table
    ?vback
    = "C:\ATC\AccommoBook\Backups\backup19.zip "
    ? alltrim(vback)
    = "C:\ATC\AccommoBook\Backups\backup19.zip"
    unzip_files(alltrim(vBack), "*.*", "c:\temp")

Is there anything wrong with this code?

    Re: File not found error

    Instead of

    ? alltrim(vback)

    try

    ? file.exists(alltrim(vback))

to see if vback contains what you want it to contain.
    There can be only one.

      Re: File not found error

      Stan thanks for the reply.
      I tried
      ?vback
      = "C:\ATC\AccommoBook\backups\backup27.zip "
      ? alltrim(vback)
      = "C:\ATC\AccommoBook\backups\backup27.zip"
      ? file.exists(alltrim(vback))
      = .F.

The file does exist and it can be opened with a zip utility.

      Any suggestions?

        Re: File not found error

Peter, use Windows explorer to verify that the path is correct. What you're showing indicates that the file called "backup27.zip" is not in the path "C:\ATC\AccommoBook\backups"

        Be careful to check spelling.

          Hi tom

          Thank you for your input
That is exactly my point. The script indicates that the file does not exist.
But looking at the folder with windows explorer, it is listed in the backups folder c:\atc\accommobook\backups\backup27.zip. And it can be opened.

          ....Weird

          Thanks
          Peter

            Re: File not found error

Peter, I'm unable to replicate this issue here. Alpha Five can determine if my file exists whether I store in on the root drive, or whether I store it buried 6 levels deep in the directory structure. file.exists() works fine whether I use the actual path or first store the path in a variable, using the variable with file.exists() instead of the actual path.

Here are some ideas to check, though candidly each is along shot:

a)Check the file attributes. Is it hidden? is there anything unusual about the attributes since it's a backup file? i.e. is it marked as a system file or something else that's atypical? My testing here has been with simple text files that are not protected, locked, or hidden.

            b) Is the file on the local machine or on a different machine? Does the user have access to that folder? Is the folder shared?

            c) try your file.exist() statement without using the variable. (Supply the actual path instead). Can Alpha Five determine that the file is there? If not try to figure out why Windows is blocking access?

            d) try using file.exist() with other files. Begin with files on your local machine. Then look for differences between them and the backup zip file.

              Re: File not found error

              Hi Tom

Thanks for all the help. Found the problem further back.
              Here is the actual code:

'added alltrim() to "zip_filename" below to remove any spaces that might exist
              full_zip_filename = alltrim(path) + chr(92)+ "backups" + chr(92) + alltrim(zip_filename)
              tblog.backupfile=full_zip_filename
'Check to see if zip file exists. If it does, delete it.
              If file.exists(full_zip_filename ) then
              file.remove(full_zip_filename)
              End if
              file.zip(full_zip_filename,path + chr(92) + "*.*")
              vFullPath = alltrim(full_zip_filename)+".zip"

What I do find strange is the fact that Microsoft Explorer did not show any spaces in the actual filename.

              Thanks
              Peter
