Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    control mouse clicks on form

    I need to control where on the form the user can click the mouse button.
    When a Xdialog is on the form and the user clicks OK, then control the mouse clicks so that the user cannot click anyplace on the screen

    See jpg.

    Thanks

    Hi Charlie -

    I presume that you're running a process during which you don't want the user to click?

    I haven't tried it, but what about the HOURGLASS_CURSOR() function?

      How about UI_FREEZE(.t.)

      with a corresponding UI_FREEZE(.f.)

      when your're ready for the user again?

      or uiFreezeObject.create()

      Or if you want to disable the buttons until you get through with something....

      Code:
      list = topparent.child_enum("f=button")
      for each b in list
      	evaluate_template(b+".disable()")
      next
      and later

      Code:
      list = topparent.child_enum("f=button")
      for each b in list
      	evaluate_template(b+".enable()")
      next

        Thanks
        I cannot use UI_Freeze beacuse I have user messages comming back to the screen to give them feedback on what part of the script is running.
        UI_Freeze will prevent messages from being displayed.

        If the script is running and the user clicks on the windows start menu , or just on another part of the screen, it puts a white block over the screen and the user cannot see if anything is happening.
        see jpg.

        I am looking for a way to disable the mouse until the scrit is thru running

        Thanks

          Charlie, if the screen is maximized and the system menu disabled or removed, wouldn't you achieve your goal if all the objects on the form were themselves disabled?

            So what you really want is

            UI_YIELD()

            Syntax

            UI_YIELD()

            Description

            Use UI_YIELD() in fast running loops to provide Alpha Five with time to refresh the screen display.
            and has nothing to do with preventing the user from clicking on your form because the same thing (screen corruption) can happen whatever is opened in the foreground.
            There can be only one.

              Re: control mouse clicks on form

              I never had such need and as such I have never tired this, but it's worth a try:
              When the user clicks OK:
              parentform.disable()

              after the script runs and finishes:
              parenform.enable()

              I believe it will work, if not:
              disable and enable all objects on the form individually,or

              set a variable based on which objects will be enabled/diabled, or

              put all these objects in a Conditional object.

                Re: control mouse clicks on form

                A more elegant way to do this is:
                After the user clicks OK:
                Show another modal xdlg with progress bar and either:
                a-Show the other messages as embedded modeless xdlg's in the one with the progress bar, or
                b-as separate modeless xdlg's

                The Modal xdlg with the progress bar will have an OK button that will be disabled up and untill the script finishes running.
