Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Jack,

Have a look at Field Properties, Setup tab. Uncheck Read only.

        Hi Jack,

        You started this thread with,
I have create a form and put a RTF Rich Text Field on a Form. But why the RTF Rich Text Field is only Read Only?
But your real question is, why cant you make a RTF Variable object editable? Unfortunately my answer is, I dont know.

So my next question to you is, why do you want to use a Variable RTF object? If anything could be typed in, what happens next?

          Re: Form RTF Rich Text

My intention is that all the fields are unbond from the table so that when the user click save button then the processing of the save/update the record.

Initially, I have create the fields are bound from the table. I tried to enter or update records and click save, work well as all the coding are correct as I use the Action Script.

Later I found that my table has created many empty record. The empty record does not come immediately after create the form or enter or update the record. Becos of these, I create variable for each field, so that will not auto create empty record in the table; but now i face the problem of memo field.

I have other form show the listing of the record, so when the user on-row-double-click, the data-entry form show for user to edit the record. But these form has restricted all the enter and delete including the browse.

          thanks.
          Many Thanks.

            Hi Jack,

It seems that you are trying to solve a data entry problem by creating a new one. If a field is required to have data then you must restrict the user from leaving the form until the field is filled.

                Jack,

I assume it is the RTF field that is missing text, is that correct?

                  Re: Form RTF Rich Text

Jack, your variable is CHARACTER data. Your RTF editor control is for BINARY data. RTF data is not text. It includes binary control codes that govern the appearance, shape, size, and color of the text. You've bound the RTF memo editor editor object to a variable that by definition cannot contain RTF text. (This is probably why the editor control appears to be locked in ReadOnly mode.)

I don't know of a way to bind a variable in the form to the RTF editor control.

By the way, your table structure doesn't support RTF memo text either. You've specified the wrong data type for the Cust_Remark field.

May I suggest that a better idea for you would be to determine why you're getting lots of empty records. If that were solved you could collect input from the user with controls that are bound to the underlying table.

Finally, I strongly recommend you study Dr. Wayne's article on "Memos and Browses that work" at www.learn alpha.com. It's a reliable way to implement support for memo field data. IMHO it's the ONLY way.

                      I agree with Peter.
It would look/work like this (attached).
