Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Pressing Cancel While Logging In

I have set up security for a database.

    Tools, Security, Set database Password

What I don't like: When opening the database from a shortcut, if the user should press the Cancel Button, the Password Dialog closes leaving the Alpha Five screen open.

Is there a way to force Alpha Five to close if the user presses Cancel.

I did a search and it appears that this was a forgotten feature.

I don't see any choice to select if Cancel is selected.

Try using a5_forceclose_all() for the cancel action. It works for me!

      Scott,

      Thank you for your reply.

But where do I put that command?
Pressing Cancel cancels the loading of the database, but does not close Alpha Five.

Ron, I agree. It would be better if there were a way to tell Alpha to close itself if the user cancels during log on. You wouldn't necessarily want this to happen automatically in all cases, but it would be better if there were a flag or switch that could be used to achieve this result when desired. -- tom

          Ronald -

Sorry I mis-remembered what I had in my application.
I put my close in the script that is run if the user attempts are to many.

I thought sure I did it for the Cancel also but in looking closer my application does the same - Alpha stays open if I press Cancel.

So it seems you are correct - I don't see any method of handling the Cancel -It does appear to have been a left out and worse - I doubt very seriously that it will ever be addressed on a version that is out of date.
If this is really important - I can tell you that it has been addressed in V9. (see second screen shot)

I'd have to think real hard about an upgrade to v9 right now with v10 just around the corner - although I did read some where that there may be a deal going on if you get v9 now that you would get v10 later free. I really don't know the details on that one so you would have to do some investigation of your own.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

          Scott

Ron, looks like this is handled in vers 9.

The information that I've seen is that the amount spent on buying v9 will be credited towards the purchase of v10.

That can be quite different from your comment.

That is also the policy that Alpha has followed for the last few releases.

You're right - that is quite a difference. I haven't actually seen the promo for myself. I guess I shouldn't have even mentioned it because of that. Color my face REALLY red.

                    Thanks for your replies.

I guess we'll have to upgrade sometime in the future.
