Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    corrupted Action Scripting window

    Hi
Can anyone please tell me what is happening to my Action Scripting window? All of a sudden I get a window that looks like the image I have attached to my message.

I have Vista Premium 64bit. I have done System Restore. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I tried repairing but it stops and says, "Enter the full pathname to the installation file source pathname: c:\users\Cindy\AppData\Local\temp\GLB560b.TMP. Of course it is nowhere to be found.

The problem seems to have started when I started deleting, duplicating forms, tables, changing names in my tables.

Is something getting stuck in the Registry that doesn't get flushed out when you uninstall?

This is driving me nuts. Please help.

    Cindy

Don't know the answer to your question. To troubleshoot this a bit further have you verified that Alpha Five can open and run other databases, such as AlphaSports? Is the problem on one machine only? The idea is to try to determine if the problem is (a) the particular database you are using (b) the Alpha Five install itself or (c) your machine / operating system.

Thanks for replying Tom. Yes, I can run other databases but going into design mode on any of the forms produces the same result: a corrupted window.

I'm not able to help you. Suggest you search for related threads discussing vers 8 and Vista 64. It's possible I suppose that vers 8 won't run on the 64 bit vista system you're using.

          Thanks for replying, Tom.

I have a strong suspicion that A5V8 is uninstalling incorrectly and things are being left in the registry.

How can I find out how to uninstall A5V8 completely?

The registry editor will allow you to search. Backup the registry before removing anything.
            There can be only one.

              Thanks, Stan.

I will try your suggestion. After talking with my son and thinking about it for a while, I realized I had the same problem with WordPerfect Office X3 on Vista Home Basic. Today, I read that Vista handles graphics in a new way:

"One of the new features of Windows Vista is a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) that allows such fancy tricks as compositing desktop windows using the computer's 3D graphics card. Another advantage of the new WDDM is that Vista virtualized graphics card memory, so that applications didn't need to worry if there was enough RAM on board the graphics card to store needed textures and other information. This also helps multiple 3D applications get along with each other without running out of elbow room.

However, this new feature came at a price: the virtualized graphics memory came out of the same 2GB pool as the application, which was especially RAM-hungry with the most powerful graphics cards such as a 1GB Radeon X2900XT. As both the application and virtual graphics memory driver fought for RAM, the two would sometimes run out of space. The hotfix attempts to mitigate this problem by only creating a virtual graphics memory space if an application specifically demands it, a process Microsoft calls "lockable." With the fix applied, only lockable applications can generate a virtual graphics memory space."

I was getting "Memory Corruption" errors with A5V8 but I had a lot of other programs open at the same time. So, I don't think there is anything wrong with A5V8 because it was written for Windows XP.

                Re: corrupted Action Scripting window

I would like add what I found out about uninstalling A5V8 from my computer. I took Stan's advice and searched the registry. There was so much there referring to A5V8 that I don't believe the program was uninstalled, just the listing disappeared.

After deleting as much as I thought was pretty harmless (in the registry and in folders), I was able to reinstall the program without a hitch.
