Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Getting a color value from a bitmap

    I'm trying to use the bitmap_colors_get() function:

    dim ff as P
    dim bb as B
    dim cc as C
    ff = file.open("C:\2622.bmp",FILE_RO_EXCLUSIVE)
    bb = ff.readb(1000)
    cc = bitmap_colors_get(bb,"B",.t.)

    ?cc

    And as advertised I got a 1000 charachter return

    But it's a continuous stream of numbers
    The bitmap is an image of a green backdrop
    I don't see any number pattern in the data stream

    I don't see any reference to the number pattern in any help file

    Does anyone know how I can break this result down so I can use the result?

    Thanks
    Duane

    What is it you want to do? (with the result)
    There can be only one.

      Re: Getting a color value from a bitmap

      Morning Stan

      What I'd like to do is photograph a color checker card, then query the image 3 times, once with each of the Red, Green, and Blue choices.

      Then be able to figure out how close the grey patch values are to the mfgr's specs
      This will allow me to ensure multi camera setups are going to output the same brightness of image
      Even though we're using flash meters to measure our lights to 1/10 of a stop there are still inconsistancies in cameras and lenses.

      It doesn't matter if the result values are 0-255, or an 8 bit value, whatever standard it is
      I know the pixel dimensions of the camera sensor, and should be able to figure out which sensor pixels (from the result data stream) I'm getting info for; therefore which color patch is being represented. Take an average of numerous data and then get my numerical rep of the color patch. (I'm hoping, anyway)

      I know you can buy software to do this procedure, but we're shooting into an A5 app, and I thought is would be very smooth if this process could be built into it

      Thanks
      Duane

        Re: Getting a color value from a bitmap

        Not sure if this will help because I have no idea what the results mean.

        Code:
        dim ff as P
        dim bb as B
        dim cc as C

        ff = file.open("C:\windows\Blue Lace 16.bmp",FILE_RO_EXCLUSIVE)
        bb = ff.readb(ff.bytes_get())
        cc = bitmap_colors_get(bb,"B",.t.)
        ?cc
        = "0000128128128128192000255255255255"
        cc = bitmap_colors_get(bb,"R",.t.)
        ?cc
        = "0128012801280128192255025502550255"

        cc = bitmap_colors_get(bb,"G",.t.)
        ?cc
        = "0012812800128128192025525500255255"

        ff.close()
        Possibly a better example, more colors.

        Code:
        ff = file.open("C:\windows\coffee bean.bmp",FILE_RO_EXCLUSIVE)
        bb = ff.readb(ff.bytes_get())
        cc = bitmap_colors_get(bb,"B",.t.)

          Stan

          That's what I was getting at..... what would those results relate to?

          Thanks for checking

              This is binary snippet from the blob.
              See if you could convert that to text using:
              *bin_to_plain()
