Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calculation problem with report

I've designed a set to track deliveries. The parent db contains customer info and the child db contains the date, qty, price, etc. The link is by account number. I've created a delivery schedule report for each driver that includes the date and amount of the last delivery along with the name, address, due date, price, etc. The amont of the last delivery is derived using a summary field and LAST as the summary type. I want to be able to have a total of all the last deliveries so I can easily compare how much product was sold on a route each time it is done. Unfortuately, the result is always wrong. If there were 5 accounts with deliveries of 100lbs each made I should get a total of 500lbs. The calculation I get always multiplies each delivery amount by the number of child records for each account. So if there are 10 child records for each of the 5 accounts I'll get a total of 5000lbs.

    100lb delivery x 5 accounts x 10 child records

I have tried every conceivable way I can think of to come up with the correct answer. I even created the same report in just the parent db using the dbmax and the xlookup functions but that didn't work either. Can anyone help me with this problem?

BTW, my new email address is [email protected]

    Thanks,
    Kerry

    RE: Calculation problem with report

I'm a little confused as to what the report does, but maybe this will help. When you print a report using a set, you can customize the set's links. As an example, to print report A, you would press PRA to get to the Range Setting Screen. Press the down arrow 6 times and you will land on Link Mode. Select Customized and press F5. You can now change the links of the child database from 1 to many to 1 to 1.

Since you're using a set, you need to specify one or more grouping levels. In the Grouping footer, you can specify the total for that particullar group.

See the A4 Invoice report examples and how they're organized.

        RE: Calculation problem with report

Thanks for your response. There are 6 drivers, 8 route books per driver, 4 different routes per book for a total of 192 routes. The report is a list of 10-30 delivery stops for each route. Each driver receives a list or route sheet of delivery stops every day. The list includes customer names, addresses, and other pertinent information as well as last delivery date and the quantity delivered in pounds. I want to include a grand total of pounds delivered on the previous route but calculating it has me baffled. Any suggestions?

          RE: Calculation problem with report

I am going to try your suggestion about the links. I currently have the reports record selection and printsettings configured through the report so I will have to make some modifications to try it. I'll let you know if it works.

          Thanks,
          Kerry

I tried your suggestion and it worked great. I created a keystroke script and modified the report. Thank you Gary for your help.
