Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi,
Does your printer support DOS? I have a HP722C, and the pritner needs to be "jump started" to print from Alpha. You need to write a batch file and place on your desktop. All that is in the batch file is, VER>LTP1. This command re-directs the VER command from printing on the screen to the device on LTP1. It will print out a line similar to this "WINDOWS 95 [Version 4.00.1111]. After this, you can print from Alpha4 until your computer is rebooted or shut down.
Here is the printer configuration I use:
    Printer left margin - 5
Top of form delay - 0
    Page advance by - Formfeed
    Lines per page - 59
    Set up codes: 27 69 27 38 108 48 111 54 100 49 108
    Close out codes: 27 69
    Normal codes: 27 40 115 48 115 48 66
    Bold codes: 27 40 115 51 66
    Italic codes: 27 40 115 49 83
    Uline on codes: 27 38 100 49 68
    Uline off codes: 27 38 100 64
    Compressed on: 27 40 115 49 54 46 54 55 72
    Compressed off: 27 40 115 48 112 49 48 46 48 72

    Good Luck,
    Sue

        RE: Hp720v10.3-alpha4v6incompatibility

        Edgar,

The first thing that needs to be established is whether or not the HP 720 will print from DOS programs or not.

        Check your documentation.

If it will print from DOS, then bring up the MSDOS prompt. At the prompt type ver>lpt1 and press the enter key. If the printer prints, show us your bat file. You may have the command in the wrong location. If the printer does not print and it is capable of printing DOS programs, then it is not configued properly to print from DOS. You'll need to go into your printer setup.

          RE: Hp720v10.3-alpha4v6incompatibility

          Hi,
The VER command does not load alpha4, just enables the printer to print alpha4.
          At the C: type VER=LPT1
If the printer prints something, then load alpha4 and try printing a report. Edit one of the printer codes in alpha4 to be the same as the ones I posted, and chose that as your printer and you shouldn't have any problems.
If the printer does not print anything, it may not support DOS.
