Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Credit Card Info Stolen

    Hi Mike.

I never took it that way at all. I just wanted to tell everyone what I had seen.

A little off topic, but I would like to thank you and DaveM for the help on the forms a little time back. Works great. Could not have done it without you.

    Cheers
    Rick

Has anyone looked at Cabela's web sight?
      http://www.cabelas.com/home.jsp;jses...equestid=36247

They sell amunition and other hunting stuff.

This may be a big deal to "Home Land Security", especially since the perpetrator seems to be from another country.

        Re: Credit card info stolen...

Hi Mike, I will look it up and post it, it came across my desk a couple weeks ago.

Our courts are trying to pass something on the email, but not as of yet.

I am sure we will follow what you (US) do with respect to "cloud data".

Just a risk to be considered with WEB development.

Even more draconian measures are being introduced for the UK. ISPs will have to store everything you do on the net, including social networking sites, although the govt. has very kindly agreed to pay (some of) the ISPs' compliance costs.

You think the U.S. has too much Big Brother? Welcome to the UK!

Hi Ross, they apparently have the ability to retrieve the data and email thru the provider

If I am the provider they cannot 'retrieve data and email' off my server without a warrant. They can however intercept communications carried out on my machine (in accordance with the Patriot Act) IF I give them permission, thus bypassing the requirements of the Wiretap statute.

Without my permission they need a warrant.

The Vietnamese card fraudster that hit me was only buying domains with hosting at hosting companies (free domain with hosting accounts). If you're buying and selling domains I would assume you are not doing it through a bunch of hosting companies.

                        Re: Credit card info stolen...

A few months ago, I got a $3.10 charge from "Cancer Gifts NJ" on a new card that I only used for an A5 purchase, and the charge was made the same day as the A5 purchase. I did a little research and found that others (i.e. non-Alpha people) also rec'd charges from the same entity. The way the scam works is that first they make a small charge, and if that goes through, they hit you with a big charge. It took me two bouts w. the cc company before they actually canceled my card and issued a new one. The first time they said they would, but never followed through. Don't take the word of your cc company. Verify!

P.S. "Cancer Gifts NJ" phone no was either bogus or disconnected (others reported the same thing).

This probably has reduced my ability to use Alpha Software for desktop only for a very large project. I may only be able to use it for modeling. This is huge for me.

After 3 months, I talk the boss into letting me use this software, then his credit card gets hacked. I just found out, so I don't know what Alpha has sent him in correspondence.

If I tell him that Alpha is secure because they don't use their software for their own website, that brings up big questions. If I don't explain, that would leave them to believe that Alpha's software failed.

Writing an application takes time (even though with Alpha it is faster than others). Back when their storefront was created (a long time ago), Alpha had no web ability. So it was not even possible. Today it could, and should be written in Alpha Five, but that would use development resources Alpha probably does not have. I'm sure, in light of the event that happened (no matter what the cause/reason), that they are reevaluating that decision and probably will make some shoes for the cobbler's son! :)
