Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Seems like some strong feelings about the Wiki

Over on the Idea Scale (Whish List) site this thread seems to have generated more activity than any other post!
    http://alphasoftware.ideascale.com/a...al/55797-14754

I have to agree, the Wiki is where information goes to die. There has to be a better implementation, another suggestion was where the community can contribute to update the wiki... but a better wiki
Anyway I am sure a lot of people on this message board are not on the Idea Scale site so I thought I would bring this discussion over here to a wider audience.

Re: Seems like some strong feelings about the Wiki

I do not care for the Wiki or ideascale. Wish there were better alternatives.

I do use the wiki a little. The included help system from alpha does a lot better for me in most cases. This site helps me more and I contribute what I can here.

The ideascale thing is used by VERY few and most of those are self serving people who wish the rest were not there. It also breaks often and tosses me out. That is distracting at best. We had a wish list on here and it was VERY helpful. Alpha employees should have paid a bit more attention to it though.

    Others may disagree.

Re: Seems like some strong feelings about the Wiki

        Thanks Steve,

My one day a week for fishing is Friday whether rain or shine. I hope you guys take a few hints and find an exciting alternative. In the past several years, I do not believe I have completed any of the 4 or 5 videos I started to try. Patience for that is just not there.

Also, I applaud Alpha for it's forray into the web, but there are more of us surfacing every day that still do mostly desktop. Just did not want you guys to forget that. LOL

Just a note: **Things should be voted for. There should not be votes against anything. I Looked at that real hard before stating what I just said. I also tested this at the ideascale site(won't say how). Think people are voting down stuff wanted/needed for desktop when they never do desktop and vice/versa.

        Good Luck!

EDIT: after writing this, I went to ideacrap and as usual got kicked out. 4 times it errored IE out after leaving this thread. I do not want to hear how well it works with some other browser by one of the 61 users with 83 suggestions, 181 comments and 643 votes( a little over 10 per user).

        Happy days!

While you may consider comments like that as honest,straight-up, helpful, I actually consider it rude, insulting and provocative ... given that I am one of the users
of ideascale you are painting with your stereotype brush.

                      John,

Sorry you feel that way. It was not meant to be rude, but an honest evaluation. No one should feel insulted unless the shoe that fits hurts. I did not stereotype all the people on there. There are a a few that are not doing it as planned and are very self serving. I did not name anyone specifically and the people who are the culprits will know who they are.

I do believe the "NO VOTE DOWN" policy would be very helpful if the ideascape thing were to be kept. It would be nice if it worked too.

                        Yes, I purposely misspelled it.
