Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: So Cal Alpha Software Users Group?

I have been developing in Alpha for about 3 months so I am still a beginner. I am interested primarily in web based and mobile apps using Xbasic, Ajax, Javascript, SQL, CSS and HTML5.

Re: So Cal Alpha Software Users Group?

          Hi Dave,
I have been waiting to see if there are anymore replies. As you can see, you are the only one so far. There have been about 90 views but I assume that everyone who has seen this post is either out of the region or just not interested in a So. Cal Alpha Software User group.
This may be why on another post somewhere, the relevance of Alpha Software has been questioned.
I believe in the Product and its capabilities so I'll wait a little longer to see if there are anymore responses. Maybe after the Holiday Season is finished, more users may respond.
If not, maybe by mid-January I'll post on for a Meetup for Alpha Five Users, I'll keep you posted.

          As far as My profile;
I have been an Alpha Five User and supporter since Version 9. I have made a few minor desktop apps, and have bee testing the Web Apps capabilities.
I now have a need to produce a Mobile App and look forward to the new Alpha Anywhere Version that has the Mobile components.
I am by no means and Expert or even a true Advanced user.
I had done a major application that was wide area capable more than 10 years ago. It was a Facilities Management System designed for a Major Utility, and it worked very well for more than 10 years before it was replaced.
I do know data bases and network technologies along with the various Operating Systems.
I am a stickler for doing applications correctly and have little patience for short cutting or short changing customers., that's why I am looking forward to the new version with its Mobile capability.

          I will keep you posted.

          Thanks,
          Clarence Martin
          Sincerely,

          Clarence Martin

Re: So Cal Alpha Software Users Group?

I have 19 Southern California Alpha users in my IADN database (including Clarence). I could email them and point to this thread if they want to consider joining a local user group. From my experience there is a low response when to anything when you single-shot it. It takes multiple invites and reminders to get something going; it can wear you out trying. If you did start a users group, I would include it in an upcoming IADN newsletter and I know Alpha would not be opposed to mentioning it.

                Thanks Again Steve.
OK, all of you that may be interested in the SoCalAlphaUsersGroup, please post a response here. If we can get some interest, I will post an email address for you to contact me. I am hoping to start the group after the first of the year.
I would also want to get some kind of profile on your use of the Alpha Five Product and what you would want get out of the User Group.

                Clarence

Re: So Cal Alpha Software Users Group?

We can do it together. I am near San Francisco so I will run a NorCal group. If we have it on the same day we can be real nerdy and run a live video link between the groups for a portion of the meeting.

I am located in the Central Valley but am interested as well. I've been developing in alpha 5 on a very small scale for some time but want to become more proficient. Community helps! My focuses are along the same lines as Dave's.

                            Steve,
It looks as though we are getting responses now, thanks.
I am excited about getting this going but I will wait until after January 1st. I also like the idea of doing some kind of web connection or video conference to unify all of the regions together, as you suggested.
We should discuss this in the near future as to ideas for doing this.
If you have time between Christmas and New Years, let me know.
                            Sincerely,
