Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show/Hide linked content based checkbox value

    Not sure it matters for this question, but I am currently using the pre-release. (June 9, 2012.)

    This seems like it should be simple enough, but it is driving me crazy.

    I have a grid using the single record template, so only the detail view shows, and I have linked content under the detail view.

    I have a container to conditionally show some options. I placed Net = true in the show/hide expression for the field properties for the container. Works perfectly.

    But I want the linked content to act the same way. The linked content section does have a show/hide expression option, and I tried to use it. First with the same Net = true expression. I also tried with quotes. With 1 instead of true. I used the object id - '{grid.componentName}.D.V.R1.NET' both with and without quotes. I tried everything with == also.

    I tried to produce a JavaScript function, and without any conditions, I can show and hide the linked content based on a div, but adding in the if/else statement, I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to get the value of the field. The way I was most expecting it to work was - if('{grid.componentName}.D.V.R1.NET' == true) { ... though I would have also thought that - if('NET' == true) { ... would have worked.

    I expect there is something I am missing here, but I am still too new to JavaScript, and it's use in Alpha.

    Sometimes I just can't find this stuff... where is the show/hide expression for Linked Grids/Content section?

      When you "Define Linked Content", under the "Security" button is the "Show/Hide Expression" button.

        We must be in different places 'cause I don't have a Show/Hide Expression button under the Security button (which I do have). I'm in...

        Grid Properties, Linked Grids/Content, Linked Content Definition, Linked Content Builder dialog, Define Linked Content button, and across the bottom of this dialog I have three buttons... Override Component Settings, Customize Working message, and Security. Same pre-release as you. How come you're so lucky and get extra buttons???

          Show_Hide_pre_001.png

          Not sure what to say, but here it is, with the expression open, and one of my attempts in it.

          Build 2721 3940

          One thing I didn't even think of is if this is even functional right now.

          This was my latest attempt in my JavaScript functions, using an alert box for now to test the if function:

          Code:
          function hide2() {
          	if('{grid.componentName}.D.V.R1.NET' == true) {
          		alert("Test");
          	}
          }

            Too funny... just not in my installation... on two different systems.

              Re: Show/Hide linked content based checkbox value

              Actually do you have the subscriber benefits? I just looked it up, and one of the benefits is a show/hide for the row expander, but I believe this ended up putting it under any linked content, not just the row expander.

              Although it does mention run time, so I assume it may not be as dynamic as the show hide in the grid.

                Re: Show/Hide linked content based checkbox value

                Yeah... I started getting the idea it was something like that... yes I have Subscriber Benefits but forgot to load the SN when I re-installed. Anyway... it's in now and I do have the button and.. as you've found... it doesn't work here... or we've no clue how to enter the expression. You're other idea does work, however.

                With your Div around the Linked Content you can use your if statement but it needs fixing a bit. As you said, you're trying to get the value... so that's the clue. I put this into the Client-side event afterDetailViewOpen. This show/hide if statement needs to go into an event that fires when the record changes. There may be other events that work too.

                Code:
                if ($('{Grid.ComponentName}.D.V.R1.PRODNAME').value == '3')
                	{
                	$('PRODORDERSLINK').style.display = 'none';
                	}
                else
                	{
                	$('PRODORDERSLINK').style.display = 'block';
                	}
                Yours will work as .value == true

                  Nope, still doesn't work. I always get the else.

                  I altered it as such:

                  Code:
                  if ($('{Grid.ComponentName}.D.V.R1.NET').value == true)
                  	{
                  	$('CustComish').style.display = 'none';
                  	alert("none");
                  	}
                  else
                  	{
                  	$('CustComish').style.display = 'block';
                  	alert("block");
                  	}
                  While the display should tell me which is firing, I still added in the alert.

                  I did place it in the afterDetailViewOpen. And for some reason it never knows the value is true. I even tried 1, '1', 0, & '0'.

                      Yes, found what I want, thank you Mr Wood.

                      Using your blog post/YouTube video, I put the following code into both the onDetailViewRender, and the fields (NET) onClick event.

                      Code:
                      var cat = {grid.Object}.getValue('D','NET');

                      switch (cat) {

                      	case true:
                      		document.getElementById('childa').style.display = "block";
                      		break;

                      	case false:
                      		document.getElementById('childa').style.display = "none";
                      		break;

                      	default:
                      		document.getElementById('childa').style.display = "none";
                      		break;
                      }
                      I know I didn't need to, but I changed my DIV ID to childa.

                      Although the {grid.Object}.getValue('D','NET'); is what was probably tripping me up, but this code is much more powerful, and I will be using it elsewhere.

                        Run the grid under Firefox and Firebug and see what's going on with that control... what the value actually is.

                          Ah. It is a little different:

                          td id="GRID1.D.TD.R1.NET"

                          Instead of using:
                          {Grid.ComponentName}.D.V.R1.NET'

                          Maybe I should have used:
                          {Grid.ComponentName}.D.TD.R1.NET'
